Find the best kouign amann in Austin, Texas. This French pastry is a must-try!
This post was last updated: July 2026

My mom gave me my love of pastries. When I was a kid, we regularly visited a French bakery on Saturdays and came home with a box of pastries. Sometimes, half of the box’s contents were already gone by the time we arrived home. I loved them all, but my favorites were croissants and palmiers, a heart-shaped pastry that was crunchy, caramelized, and sweet. As an adult, I discovered the kouign amann, and it is a combination of my favorite pastries!

What is Kouign Amann?

First, you’re probably wondering how to pronounce the name: queen ah-mahn.

I love the crisp flakiness of the pastry, the buttery layers, and the sweet, caramelized crisp on the outside. Like puff pastry or a croissant, the kouign amann is light and fluffy with many layers. Kouign amann has layers of butter and sugar on the inside and caramelized sugar on the outside. The flavor is similar to a palmier, but it’s a little fluffier.

Where to Find Kouign Amann in Austin, TX

Kouign Amann isn’t as readily available as a variety of croissants, cinnamon rolls, and other pastries. No matter which restaurant or café you visit, be sure to go early because the kouign amann is bound to sell out!

Here are 10 bakeries where you can find a kouign amann in Austin.

Baguette et Chocolat

This bakery and cafe in Bee Cave has some amazing pastries! Their kouign amann is more like a palmier because it is less fluffy, more crispy, and flatter. A popular choice in the area, Baguette et Chocolat also has a menu of French cafe eats.

Address: 12101 FM 2244, Bldg 6, Bee Cave, Texas, 78738
Website: https://www.baguetteetchocolat.com/

Bakery Lorraine

This pastry shop, led by chefs who met while working at Bouchon Bakery, originated in San Antonio and expanded to Austin with a location at the Domain on Rock Rose. Their delicious kouign amann is filled with lemon curd. I also love Bakery Lorraine for brunch.

Address: 11600 Rock Rose, Ste #110, Austin, TX 78758
Website: https://www.bakerylorraine.com/

Epicerie

Curious about a savory kouign amann? Epicerie’s kouign amann combines the sweet and butter caramelized pastry with hints of rosemary, which makes it a unique offering. This restaurant gets very busy for weekend brunch so be sure to arrive early.

Address: 2307 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78756
Website: http://epicerieaustin.com/

La Patisserie

With two locations in Austin (north and south), you can pick up this kouign amann on the weekends. It is many times filled with seasonal fruit, so it tastes similar to a pie or pastry tart.

Address: 602 W. Annie St., Austin, Texas 78704 or 7301 Burnet Road Ste 102, Austin, Texas 78757
Website: https://www.lpaustin.com/

Nougatine Bakery

This bakery first existed at the Barton Creek Farmers Market, but they now also have a brick-and-mortar bakery at The Austin Winery. You’ll find plenty of delicious pastries here, including a kouign amann.

Address: 440 E St Elmo Rd A1, Austin, TX 78745
Website: https://nougatinebakery.com/

Pieous

While Pieous is famous for its pizza and pastrami, its bakery has created its own following for its pastries. Their kouign amann has all the crispy layers you’re looking for!

Address: 166 Hargraves Drive, Bldg H, Austin, TX 78737 (in the Belterra Village Shopping Center)
Website: https://www.pieous.com/

Rocheli Patisserie

In East Austin, Rocheli Patisserie is a cute bakery with a pastry case full of pretty treats. They also serve high tea. Their kouign amann is more bready inside and has fewer caramelized bits on the outside.

Address: 1212 Chicon St #102, Austin, TX 78702
Website: https://rocheli-patisserie.square.site/

Sour Duck Market

The littlest sister of Barley Swine and Odd Duck, Sour Duck Market has many pastries on their menu, including the kouign amann. The Eastside bakery (and restaurant) has a spacious patio for dining in.

Address: 1814 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78702
Website: https://www.sourduckmarket.com/

Swedish Hill Bakery

This popular bakery and cafe on West 6th is a busy spot full of pastry options, including a kouign amann. Enjoy pastries and coffee, and grab some grocery items on the way out.

Address:

  • 1128 W 6th St, Austin, TX 78703
  • 1804 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704

  • 3663 Bee Caves Rd #4A, West Lake Hills, TX 78746

Ti Amann

This cottage baker specializes in kouign amnn, so there are big expectations! These kouign amann were very crispy and had a little less butter than I expected. Pre-orders open every Monday at 5 pm.

Address: Pick-up locations

Know any other bakeries or restaurants in Austin where I could find kouign amann? I’d love to know!

Watch out – when you walk into Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop, your eyeballs (and heart) might pop out from the beautiful, bursting pastry case. Austin’s newest bakery has quickly become a favorite, and this post shares more about it!

Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop

As the rockstar baker behind the eponymous bakery, Amanda Rockman has been feeding Austinites delicious bakeries for a decade. She returned to Austin in 2015 after pastry adventures took her to New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. You may have tasted her pastries in one of the New Waterloo venues like Mañana.

Now, aren’t we lucky to get this special bakery? A place of Rockman’s own with creative pastries, caffeine and booze, and a colorful interior. There are 18 classic pastries, 4 bagels, and 9 weekend special pastries on the menu. That’s a whole lotta pastry! It’s a blessing and a curse – so much variety and so little time. I highly recommend bringing a group so you can split a little bit of everything!

And drinks! There’s coffee, there’s booze. The seating is casual but if your group gets there early enough, you could share a carafe Sammy Sunrise (mimosa) and have a really good time.

What’s in My Pastry Box

With so many options, how do I choose?! I try to get a sampling of items, a mix of classic and specialty. The main categories here with multiple options are croissant, bagel, cake, cookie, and schmear. Items like buns, cones, and turnovers are available too.

Here’s what I got.

Kouign Amann – This was a must, of course. It’s one of my favorite pastries. Rockman has a regular flavor and a seasonal flavor. When I went I believe the special was a lime margarita.

Strawberry Cheesecake Croissant (weekend special) – They do have a plain croissant but with so many flavors, it was hard to resist! This strawberry cheesecake version was great! It has dried strawberries and light strawberry glaze on the outside and cream cheese filling. The outside was a bit crispier than I like but the inside was like a cheese danish.

I’ve had the Churro Croissant on another occasion and it was delicious too. It is loaded with cinnamon on the outside and also has a cream filling.

Everything Bagel with French Onion Dip – When there’s a whole bagel and schmear section, you have to order one! I also ordered this to try to balance out my box of breakfast sweets. (This is correct logic, right?) These are tear and dip bagel/schmear situations and this combo was great! Next time I want to try the pepperoni pizza bagel.

Vanilla Chantilly Cake (weekend special) – There are two kinds of cake at Rockman. One is cake disguised as breakfast – think banana chocolate walnut cake and almond poppysead lemon cake, which are both available on the classic menu. The other is clearly cake, a party cake. This vanilla chantilly cake is excellent and of what I ordered, the only thing that would be a must-order again for my next visit, probably because there are fewer party cake options on the menu.

Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookie – I typically order a chocolate chip cookie for two reasons – it’s a classic bakery item to compare and it’s my husband’s favorite. This one was pretty good. Next time I want to try the Oat Crack Cookie.

Cardamom Bun – I went for adventurous on this flavor and while good, I wish it was cinnamon. The texture and glaze were perfect though!

On my list for my next visit:

  • Pepperoni Pizza Bagel
  • Oat Crack Cookie
  • Snickerdoodle Cookie
  • Cinnamon Roll
  • Almond Poppyseed Lemon Cake
  • Butterscotch Pineapple Turnover

If you choose based on your taste profile, you can’t go wrong. There are plenty of excellent choices and the quality is A++.

Psst…before you leave, take a peek at their bathroom wallpaper.

If you’re looking for dessert at The Domain and in the area, you have options! This post shares a variety of ice cream, baked goods, and more to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Domain is a bustling entertainment area in North Austin with an abundance of restaurants. If you’re shopping and need a sweet treat or if you’re in the area and want to stop for dessert, there are plenty of spots to choose from. Here’s a list of my top 11 recommendations.

Bakery Lorraine

This counter-service restaurant open for breakfast and lunch is known for its baked goods. Walk in and you’ll see a case full of pastries, cookies, cakes, tarts, and more. Expect a wait around weekend brunch time. You can’t go wrong with a baked good like a cinnamon roll or kouign amann. There are also macarons of various flavors, their signature fruit tart, and several cake flavors.

11600 Rock Rose Ave #100, Austin, TX 78758

Beard Papa’s

Originating as a small bakery in Osaka, Japan in 1999, Beard Papa’s has since grown to over 475 locations around the world. This dessert shop is known for its cream puff. When you visit, you’ll be able to choose your shell flavor and your filling flavor. I like their honey butter shell with vanilla filling.

3220 Feathergrass Ct Suite 138, Austin, TX 78758

Churro Co Bakery

This local spot started as a food truck and now you can find churros and funnel cake at this brick-and-mortar bakery. You’ll know you’re there when you walk in and everything is pink! Choose from a number of toppings like chocolate sauce and whipped cream for your churros or there are a few funnel cake flavors like the Xtraberry Funnel Cake with vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries.

11101 Burnet Rd # A140, Austin, TX 78758

Frost Gelato

Fresh-made gelato with imported ingredients from Italy will make it feel like you’ve been transported to Italy! Frost Gelato features over 70 flavors. This location is the only one in Texas and the chain has locations in three states.

11700 Rock Rose Ave, Suite 176, Austin, TX 78758

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

A favorite and popular national ice cream brand, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has several shops in Austin and their pints can be found in grocery stores. When you visit the Domain location, you’ll be able to pick your favorite signature scoop, like my favorite Brown Butter Almond Brittle, or try a seasonal flavor. Pints are also available for purchase.

11601 Rock Rose Ave #110, Austin, TX 78758

Lumi’s Crepes

This food truck serves luxurious crepes with 100% Belgian chocolate – the good stuff! They also offer waffles if you prefer a crispy texture. Look how mesmerizing and decadent the chocolate design is!

11410 Century Oaks Terrace, Suite 210, Austin, TX 78758

Pressed Juicery

If you’re looking for a cold, refreshing treat, stop into Pressed Juicery. While their bottled juices are ready to grab, they also offer non-dairy soft serve and smoothies. The tropical soft serve is made with pineapple and banana purees, coconut milk, and pea protein. You can choose toppings like fresh fruit, granola, or chocolate chips.

11401 Century Oaks Terrace #103, Austin, TX 78758

Shake Shack

If you’re looking for milkshakes, Shake Shack is a place you should try. This counter-service fast food chain is known for its juicy burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and shakes. They feature a special shake flavor every month, but they always have the classics – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and cookies and cream. If you’re not feeling a shake, try their frozen custard.

11228 Domain Dr, Austin, TX 78759

Sprinkles

This is the spot for cupcake lovers! They typically have 24+ flavors available, including seasonal specials. Some of their best-selling flavors are sprinkle, red velvet, and strawberry. Another perk about this location – their cupcake ATM is available 24/7!

3120 Palm Way, Suite Y3.100, Austin, TX 78758

Sweet Paris Crêperie & Cafe

If you’re looking to dine in and enjoy dessert, take a seat at Sweet Paris. Here they have entrees like salads, sandwiches, and savory crepes as well as sweet crepes, waffles, and milkshakes.

11410 Century Oaks Terrace #112, Austin, TX 78758

Whole Foods

Not sure what kind of dessert you want? Stop by Whole Foods for a wide selection. Their signature Berry Chantilly Cake is one of my favorites, but you can pick out several items for a dessert spread.

11920 Domain Dr, Austin, TX 78758

I am so excited Comadre Panadería exists! If you’re looking for a Mexican bakery in Austin, you’ll want to try this one. Here you can get pastries like conchas and cookies with unique flavors and local ingredients.

Comadre Panadería

Chef Mariela Camacho first started popping up with Comadre Panadería in Seattle in 2017. When she moved back to the Austin/San Antonio area in 2019, her pop-ups were a hit. I first tried the pastries from the pick-up orders at Nixta Taqueria. In April 2023, the bakery moved into a space next door and Austin is delighted with the variety of pastries on the menu.

Translated from Spanish as “homegirl’s bakery,” Comadre Panadería focuses on quality ingredients and on enhancing traditional recipes with sometimes unexpected flavors. For me, it’s an exciting education on Mexican pastries that has made me love pastries even more, and this bakery is good for the community. I love that Camacho is preserving and sharing Mexican recipes, as well as her talent. Others are taking notice as well. She was nominated for a James Beard Award in the Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker category this year.

Ultimately, the delicious tastes and the weekend lines speak for themselves!

When you arrive, look for the “park here for pan” sign and the orange door.

Logistics and Menu

Pre-orders open on Wednesday at 10 am, but the bakery also has walk-in availability (expect a short line). They are currently open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The menu differs every week but may have some similar or re-occurring items. Flavors will vary from week to week, but there are typically two concha flavors, two cookie flavors, a cake, and an empanada. They also have six packs of flour tortillas.

All My Mexican Bakery Goodies

If it’s your first visit, be sure to try an empanada, a concha, and a cookie.

Here’s what I got – pretty much one of everything – on my most recent visit.

Meyer Lemon Concha – brioche bun topped with a TX meyer lemon shell

Cacoa Nib Concha – brioche bun filled with dark Mexican chocolate chunks, topped with a shell filled with Mexican cacao nibs

Atole Sugar Cookie – inspired by Atole; based with heirloom masa (Nixta Taqueria), Mexican cinnamon, and piloncillo

Sourdough Choco Chip Cookie – classic cookie with dark chocolate chips

TX Buckwheat & Cajeta Choco Cake – dark chocolate and Texas-grown buckwheat cake layered with cajeta (caramelized goat milk) cream cheese frosting

Papa Ranchera, Egg, Cheese Empanada – tender dough filled with yukon gold potatoes simmered in a spicy salsa, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese; served with salsita

Bean and Cheese Kolache – masa madre (sourdough) kolache filled with Chihuahan-style cheese

Pink Cake – classic panaderia sheet cake with TX heirloom corn flour

Piloncillo Caramel Apple Fritter – masa madre (sourdough) donut with Texas granny smith apples

My favorites from this menu were the empanada, the meyer lemon concha, the choco chip cookie, and the pink cake, but all were tasty.

Don’t forget a drink! HIJITA is an Austin company that makes drinking chocolate drinks. Made from regenerative Mexican cocoa, these drinks are delicious! The HIJITA Snow Jasmine Choco Milk Tea, made with oat milk, local honey, and jasmine tea, is going to be my go-to. I loved this unique combination and would drink it again.

Now, I’m already thinking about when I can visit next! Go try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

There are many dessert pop-ups in Austin, and they’re so good!

When I first published this post in 2020, many bakers had started or were growing their businesses because of the extra time at home. Dessert is comfort food, and most of these companies are new endeavors so I easily justified these purchases as supporting a new, local company. 😉 But really, I don’t need to justify my dessert-eating. It’s a life-long “research” project.

I found most of these companies on Instagram. Many are order-only and have weekly pick-up times. Some have weekly “drop” times, so look them up to know when and what to order. They may sell out quickly!

Here are 9 dessert pop-ups to put on your list.

Andy K’s Donuts

Made from scratch and oh so beautiful! Every month has a new set of flavors, so you’ll want to try them all! I ordered in October, so my box came with Devil’s Food Cake, Cinnamon Sugar, Maple Frosted, Beet’N and Bloody Cake, Black Cherry and Dark Chocolate, and Caramel Apple Fritter.

Bakecation by Glo

I found Gloria because people were raving about her alfajores, a dulce de leche sandwich cookie found in many South American countries. These light cookies melt in your mouth!

Bom Bakeshop

Mochi donuts are in Austin! Teresa and Anthony are two foodies who are making some delicious desserts! I love the chewy texture of the donuts. Every month features a different set of coordinating flavors. They shared their whole story on Eater Austin, and it’s a good read.

Cookie Wookie Kitchen

Erica of Cookie Wookie Kitchen makes aged cookie dough cookies and other specialty treats like milk tea madeleines and Thai tea cake. I love that she offers unique flavors with ingredients you usually see in an Asian kitchen. My top three cookie flavors are pandan coconut, black sesame cookies and cream, and red bean mochi.

Gourmet Cupcakes by Megan

You know I love cupcakes. And Megan is baking some fantastic ones. I tried the signature banana pudding flavor – vanilla cake, vanilla pudding filling, and cookie buttercream icing topped with vanilla wafers and a banana chip. There is a whole menu of filled cupcakes that you’ll love like bourbon pecan pie, tiramisu, chocolate mint, and more.

HhomDee

Chances are, you don’t know Thai desserts. You’ve probably had sticky rice and mango, but Hhomdee will share new dishes and flavors with you. My favorite things I’ve tried are the pandan chiffon cupcakes and the coconut pandan layer cake.

The Interrupted Baker

The fun of Stacy’s menus is you never know what will be on it! I tried a delicious pineapple bun and cookies ‘n cream cookie, but you’ll also find items like macarons, cookie choux, galettes, and tres leches cake.

Kat’s Hand-Baked

Kat makes cakes and includes flavors like pandan, matcha, passionfruit, and mango. One of my favorite things is her mille crepe cakes!

Local Bread Baker

Olga bakes incredible burnt basque cheesecake that is magical. There are a few different flavors including vanilla, chocolate, and dulce de leche.

So many great treats, right?! There is no shortage of options in Austin and I hope you continue to indulge a little bit!

Have you had any special desserts this year?

While Texas Bakery has changed owners and even its name in the last 10 years, it still offers Chinese bakery goods. The current iteration might be the best one yet. Here’s what you need to know about this Chinese bakery in Austin.

Where are the Chinese Bakeries in Austin?

While there are similarities in baked goods in East Asian cultures, I’m most familiar with Chinese bakeries, and they were a regular delicacy while growing up in Dallas. I’ve noticed more and more the lack of these bakeries in Austin, a somewhat common deficiency in ethnic food. Austin’s population is becoming more diverse, and hopefully, with that, the choices and variety of restaurants will expand along with it. Years ago, we had at least two mom-and-pop bakeries, but with closures and constantly changing hands, it’s evident that this has always been on shaky ground. This is why I want to support Texas Bakery as much as I can – they have great baked goods to offer in a sorely lacking category in Austin.

You might be thinking, you’re forgetting all the other East Asian bakeries in Austin! There are several locations of Tour Les Jour (national Korean franchise) and 85 °C Bakery Cafe (international Taiwanese franchise) in Austin to satisfy our cravings for milk bread and taro buns. I still shop there. They fill the need and their products are consistent, but I’m always left wanting more. Maybe it’s something only mom-and-pop shops with recipes passed down through generations provide. Maybe it’s using local ingredients and making things from scratch. For me, Texas Bakery hits different.

Texas Bakery

Tucked in the corner of Austin’s Chinatown Center in North Austin, this small shop holds big dreams. It’s nostalgia for enjoying a coconut cream bun after school and the growing need to connect with my culture as an adult. This spot has been an Asian bakery for at least 10 years, though it has changed owners several times. A Chinese family currently owns it.

When you walk in, you’ll find trays and tongs on the left to help you gather your choices. The shelves are overflowing with options, a bit haphazard when it comes to the differing tables but still organized with item labels in English and Chinese.

As with many Chinese bakeries, dietary restrictions aren’t accommodated and most of the breads are made with gluten and milk. However, if you’re looking for meat-free options, they have sweet and savory types.

If you need a cake for a special occasion, they also do custom orders. Ask to see their product book and talk through the options.

They do have a $15 credit card minimum, so be sure to bring cash just in case or be ready to load up on pastries.

What to Buy at a Chinese Bakery

When it comes to sweet offerings, my favorite things are:

  • Coconut cream bun
  • Sponge cake and cake rolls
  • Coconut bun
  • Red bean bun
  • Taro bun
  • Pineapple bun
  • Egg tart
  • Wife cake
  • Sesame ball with red bean

At Texas Bakery, I don’t recommend their egg tart and pineapple bun, but I love their coconut cream bun and pandan cake!

For savory items, the hot dog bun is traditional as well as dry pork / pork floss rolls. Texas Bakery sells curry “dumplings” (like an empanada) and pork buns.

It might be a monumental ask for this small shop to fill the physical and emotional needs of Asian Americans like me. All we can do is give them our support and hope for the best. I encourage you to give it a try!

If you’re looking for more Chinese baked goods, Tour Les Jour and 85 °C Bakery are available. You can also find them at dim sum at restaurants like Lin Asian and Chinatown.

If you’ve been here for a while, you know I love dessert. Love like driving an hour to try a bakery’s cake. And eating a 21-course dessert dinner love. Recently, I’m also the one griping about how restaurants put desserts on their menu like an afterthought and memorable dessert is hard to find in Austin. (Don’t get me started…)

Enter the Paper Route Bakery cake flight.

This cake has me quite satisfied. I was wowed by a slice about a year ago and long talked about trying the flight.

You all can keep trying to impress me (please do), and I’ll stop by Paper Route Bakery for a quick slice to remind me that the best things are easy to find.

Paper Route Bakery

This bakery has evolved since its inception seven years ago. When Chef Aaron Seriff-Culick moved the operation to its current location in 2018, the bakery focused on a variety of baked goods, including scones, cookies, and pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread).

And then in 2021, the menu was simplified and intensified. Cakes all the time, and not just any regular cakes. Magic cakes. Cakes are made in an extensive process and make you slow down and consider them. It’s art, it’s quality, and it’s the best cake I’ve ever had. (And I eat a lot of cake.)

What makes the cake so good?

  • Natural ingredients – Real ingredients, real flavors, real good.
  • Chantilly cream – I love icing that is light and fluffy and this checks the box.
  • Flavor depth – Read the description of each flavor and you’ll see the wild creativity and careful thought behind what makes these flavors unique.
  • Flavor cohesion – Not only are the flavor combinations unique but it works with flying colors. You might see an ingredient you wouldn’t expect in the ingredient list, but how the flavor blends perfectly will surprise you.
  • Perfect texture – Something you don’t typically call out when you taste something is texture, but the consistency and perfection here are noteworthy. It’s a moist cake that bounces and doesn’t dry out, with thick layers of ganache in the middle and that fluffy cream.

And all of this together brings the wow factor. Cake of my dreams is a high compliment, but let’s be honest. Like most of the best things in life, it’s better than I could have dreamed. I appreciate how delightful and creative Paper Route Bakery is, and I hope you try it soon!

Which Cake Flavor to Order?

Paper Route Bakery offers eight signature flavors and two specialty flavors each week. Every cake flavor is divine, so it really depends on flavor preference to pick a favorite. I’ve listed the flavors below by my most to least favorite. I’m a strawberry cake lover, through and through!

Strawberry Book Club

strawberry chiffon cake with black pepper crust, strawberry ganache infused with basil and pink champagne, strawberry Chantilly cream

Vanilla Au Revoir

Madagascar vanilla bean chiffon cake with whiskey barrel smoked sugar crust, vanilla bean ganache infused with cashew and taro, vanilla Chantilly cream

Coffee Fox

coffee chiffon cake with cinnamon hazelnut crust, coffee ganache infused with toasted hazelnut, mocha Chantilly cream

Chocolate Fainting Couch

chocolate feather fudge cake with black onyx cocoa crust, cacao ganache infused with toasted brazil nut and chile pepper, chocolate Chantilly cream

Raspberry Carlisle

raspberry chiffon cake with almond crust, raspberry ganache infused with cardamom and rosemary, raspberry Chantilly cream

Banana Pantsuit

banana spice cake with white chocolate macadamia nut crust, banana ganache infused with allspice and Dominican rum, butterscotch Chantilly cream

Lemon Kiss

lemon chiffon cake with honey poppyseed crust, lemon ganache infused with lavender & Limoncello, Meyer lemon Chantilly cream

Pistachio Oasis

rose petal chiffon cake with pistachio crust, pistachio ganache infused with pomegranate and cardamom, matcha Chantilly cream

You can buy them by the slice ($10) or by the whole cake. Whole cake sizing and pricing are 6” for 10-12 people ($55), 8” for 12-16 people ($110), and 10” for 16-20 people ($165). You can add a dark chocolate pour-over on any cake for $10.

Desserts are everywhere in Austin, even at Austin farmers markets.

Austin has long been a place where food entrepreneurs take the leap and as a foodie, I revel in it. It means so many delicious things to try! The number of cottage bakeries has also grown in the past few years, so there are plenty of options. Now, when you’re doing your grocery shopping at the farmers market or if you want to go find something sweet and tasty at the market, this list will help.

This post shares 11 dessert options you should try next time you visit a farmers market in Austin.

Algo Dulce

This smooth flan is a personal size dessert, so be sure to get everyone their own! 😉 It comes in three different flavors – traditional, coconut, and coffee. You’ll love the rich flavor, a recipe perfected by the co-founder’s father and shared through this company started by Texas Exes.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline and Mueller, Barton Creek Farmers Market, SFC Downtown Farmers Market. They also sell in several Austin grocery stores and restaurants.

Website: https://www.algodulcefoods.com/

Cake and Spoon

This bakery provides desserts for a well-known restaurant – Franklin Barbecue! I love their cinnamon rolls, and they also have cakes, cookies, and pies. It’s not a dessert but they also make delicious quiches.

Where to Buy: SFC Downtown Farmers Market, Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline

Website: https://www.cakeandspoon.com/

Crescent City Flavor

The croissant cinnamon roll is so good! It’s FULL of cinnamon and topped with a thick but not overwhelming glaze. They also serve very sugary pastries, like a cherry croissant, so I’d count them as dessert.

Where to Buy: Barton Creek Farmers Market, Dripping Springs Farmers Market, Buda Farmers Market

Website: https://www.instagram.com/crescent_city_flavor/

Julie Myrtille Bakery

Yes, Julie Myrtille has a storefront, but if you’re shopping at a farmers market, you’ll be able to pick up some goodies! The menu is long, but some of their dessert items include dessert tarts, madeleines and other cookies, macarons, and more.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline and Mueller, Barton Creek Farmers Market, SFC Downtown Farmers Market. Their storefront is located at 1023 Springdale Rd Building 1D, Austin, TX 78721.

Website: https://www.juliemyrtille.us/

Luv Fats Ice Cream

This small-batch ice cream company uses avocados and coconut milk to make their delicious ice creams. Since the ice cream is small-batch, new and unique flavors are available all the time. Chai and chocolate chip is one of my favorite flavors.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Mueller. Also sold at Bee Grocery.

Website: https://www.luvfatsicecream.com/

The Magical Macaron

It’s in the name – these macarons are magical! Flavors like browned butter vanilla bean and salted caramel are favorites and don’t hesitate to try a special flavor.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline and Mueller

Website: https://www.magicalmacaron.com/

Mom and Pops All Natural Frozen Pops

This dessert is especially great on those hot days at the market. These popsicles are made with all-natural and organic ingredients. I recommend strawberry lemonade. They also do chocolate-covered pops!

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Mueller, Barton Creek Farmers Market

Website: http://themomandpops.com/

Murphy Mellows

Marshmallows are an underrated dessert and these are unlike most marshmallows you’ve tasted. They’re not only fluffy and have the perfect amount of sweetness, but they come with fun swirls and tie-dye. Eat them by themselves or try the s’mores in a jar or a s’mores kit.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Lakeline and Mueller, Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, Hutto Farmers Market

Website: https://www.murphysmellows.com/

Scull House Sweets

You’ll recognize this vendor by its colorful display case of hand pies. Blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and strawberry are the typical flavors but look out for specials. While you’re at it, grab a slice of cookie cake. 🙂

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Mueller

Website: https://scullhousesweets.com/

Sweet Charli Girl Bakery

I finished my cookie-filled cookie (chocolate chip with crushed Oreo) from Sweet Charli Girl Bakery and regretted that I only bought one pack. 😀 You won’t even believe all these treats are gluten-free! I also love that this bakery is named after a rescue pup.

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Mueller

Website: https://www.sweetcharligirl.com/shop

Teddy V. Patisserie

These huge chocolate chip cookies are decadent! Can you believe each cookie has about 125 chocolate chips? The only decision you need to make is with or without walnuts?

Where to Buy: Texas Farmers Market Lakeline and Mueller. You can also get frozen cookies to bake from Central Market.

Website: https://www.teddyvcookies.com/

So many great options, right?! These are some tasty desserts to try and local companies to support.
