Are you looking for the best desserts in Austin?
I’m always doing dessert research in Austin because there are so many delicious options. To create this list of best desserts, I considered unique desserts that you can only find here, whether it’s an Austin company or a dessert that isn’t common or is especially noteworthy. This list doesn’t include desserts at restaurants but does include desserts at bakeries.
If you’re visiting Austin and/or a dessert lover like me, here are 15 companies with stand-out desserts!
Mochi Donuts from Bom Bakeshop
As this company proudly shares, they exist to spread joy! Their mochi donuts come in creative flavors and there are typically themed flavors. A sampling of their creative flavors includes earl grey with lavender, matcha strawberry, and lemon brulee. They have pop-ups and regularly sell the donuts each weekend at Dia’s Market in Central Austin.

Churro Sundae at Churro Co.
The churros at Churro Co. are excellent and of course, adding ice cream to make it a sundae would make them even better. But back to the churros. They’re not simply fried dough. Nope, they can be tossed in a variety of sugar mixes, like cocoa sugar or graham cracker sugar, and then topped with things like apple pie, chocolate cheesecake, chocolate or caramel drizzle, and more. This food truck is a decadent treat! Extra sweetness – they also serve funnel cake at their bakery location.

Asian-Inspired Cookies by Cookie Wookie Kitchen
Black sesame cookies n’ cream, ube coconut, pandan with toasted rice, red bean mochi, matcha pistachio – these are some of the delicious and creative flavors Cookie Wookie Kitchen offer. I love that Erica takes inspiration from Asian flavors and infuses them into aged cookie dough. To try these cookies, you’ll need to order them for delivery or pick them up at the shop Parker and Scott or in Cedar Park. Follow them on Instagram to learn about their next pop-ups.

Ice Cream Tacos and Pints at Dipdipdip Ice Cream
The Tatsu-ya restaurants offer some of the best food in Austin (i.e. Ramen Tatsu-ya, Dipdipdip Tatsu-ya, and Kemuri Tatsu-ya). Their Dipdipdip Ice Cream window shop presented a fun play on dessert with its unique flavors and accompaniments. They’ve currently evolved from their stacked cones to ice cream tacos! Think fried panko brioche shell filled with ice cream flavors like coconut makrut mango (I’m obsessed with this flavor). They also have their ice cream in pints so you can indulge all week.

Chocolate at Edis Chocolates & Bakery
If you love chocolate, you have to visit Edis Chocolates & Bakery! This shop in Northwest Austin is filled with chocolate desserts like truffles, cake, brownies, and more. Be sure to get a sampling to try. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried, especially the hazelnut amaretto torte and the chocolate cupcake.

Loaded Donuts at Gourdough’s
Looking at this list, Gourdough’s is the original best Austin dessert that everyone talked about. It’s for a good reason. Their tagline is Big Fat Donuts and these loaded donuts are exactly that. Miss Shortcake (cream cheese and strawberries) and Mother Clucker (fried chicken and honey butter) are two of my favorites.

Souffle Cake from Interrupted Baker
I’ve been mourning Austin’s loss of Paper Route Bakery because their cakes were next level. So I’m excited that my friend Stacy shares her desserts! She does pop-ups every weekend with pre-orders on Wednesday or Thursday. Her souffle cake is my favorite, so light and with creative flavors like dragonfruit. Stacy is Taiwanese, so she likes incorporating Asian flavors like ube, black sesame, and yuzu. Follow her on Instagram for the latest!

Huge Chocolate Chip Cookies from Teddy V Patisserie
If we’re talking huge chocolate chip cookies, you’ll probably think of the famed ones from Levain Bakery in New York City. Today you can have a Levain cookie delivered to your doorstep or you can buy frozen ones from the grocery store. But if you’re in Austin, try these two famous cookies that might wow you even more!
The Teddy V Cookies have mastered the art of crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. They’re made with seemingly normal ingredients and can include walnuts. You can get these heavyweight cookies delivered nationwide, or pick them up at the Texas Farmers Market (on the weekends) or at a few coffee shops in Austin.

Pancakes at JP’s Pancake Company
These aren’t just any pancakes. These are creative pancake batter mixes with coordinating toppings. For example, the Strawberry Banana Babe has white chocolate chip pancakes, strawberry syrup, bananas, and strawberries.

Stuffed Cookies at ThoroughBread
You read that correctly – STUFFED cookies have earned the place on this list of best desserts in Austin! ThoroughBread has some delicious stuffed cookies. They remind me of geodes – they might look plain on the outside but inside is gooey magic! Banana Nutella and peanut butter and jelly are two of my favorite flavors! They also have chocolate chip and chocolate chip pecan.

Texas Ice Cream Flavors at Lick Honest Ice Creams
Seasonal and artisanal flavors are found at Lick! It starts with quality ingredients – milk and cream from a Central Texas dairy. Then mix in locally made ingredients like chocolate, olive oil, goat cheese, and honey. Yes, they also have dairy-free flavors.
You can’t go wrong with their everyday menu which includes fresh mint and chocolate, salted caramel, and Texas sheet cake. But you can also get adventurous with their seasonal flavors, inspired by Texas produce and ingredients. Some examples include grapefruit with champagne marshmallows, tequila lime pie, and yaupon matcha chip.

Japanese Cheesecake at OMG Squee
I’m very excited about more Asian desserts being available in Austin. OMG Squee offers a decadent Japanese cheesecake in classic or ube flavor (pictured below is the swirl flavor). It’s similar to a cheesecake you might be more familiar with but less dense and more fluffy, hence why it’s called a cotton souffle cheesecake. The shop also offers other pastries like taiyaki and macarons.

Mini Pies at Tiny Pies
Pie is delicious – buttery and crispy crust with a rich filling – but it’s hard to find small portions and hard to eat without it being messy. Enter Tiny Pies. These mini pies are muffin-sized and packed with all the good stuff – lots of local ingredients.
Apple, cherry, pecan, and chocolate cream are some of their classic flavors. The Texas Two-Step is a unique classic – pecan pie with a brownie! Strawberry is one of my favorite seasonal flavors. They also have savory pies – pot pie and quiche types.

Cookie Choux at Whipped Bakery
Ok, this one is slightly outside of Austin City Limits – in Leander – but I hope you’ll accept the exception for their amazing cookie choux! These puffs are filled with fluffy whipped cream and the outside features a crispy topping. It’s worth the drive to me!
