I recently happened upon Humans of New York and it has made me a softer human being. If you’re not familiar with it, the blog features photos of New Yorkers and a few quotes from each person, usually giving a glimpse into his/her life.
I love it because it reminds me that we are all human, each with our own struggles, joys, and passions yet connected by the ability to feel, empathize and care. I love how wisdom and truth are shared through the quotes. I love how being a stranger gives them confidence in sharing their story but what they share also seems to make them vulnerable. I love thinking that these stories and conversations could easily be from any city, showing we are more alike than different. I love how humorous people are and the fact that even though they may be completely different from me in location, lifestyle, beliefs or desires; they can still make me laugh.
I’m thankful they allow their simple and complex stories touch the lives of people they may never meet or know. I highly recommend following them on Facebook (browse the comments on photos too) and visiting their website regularly.
How have people you don’t know inspired you?
