It’s been a fun month full of crafts and good food but it also included reminders of the heaviness in the world. Here are my captivations lately.
Pretty, Pretty Cake Balls
A cake ball class was such a good idea for a girls night and we had fun struggling and ooing and ahhing together. What do you think about the end product? Legit looking, right?!
Saving the World With Cow Patties
Did you know cow patties could change the world? It’s true, and my friend is a part of a team that will be going to Ethiopia this summer to bring biogas solutions to rural homes. This project will help keep families safer and provide efficient cooking tools to save time and energy. This quick and fun video gives all the details. If you’re able, they are raising funds for their trip and project.
Let’s Have a Veggie Party
As a big veggie-lover, I am obsessed with this farm-to-table party decor. It’s so bright, colorful and creative.
One Boston Day
On One Boston Day, the band Karmin posted this music video for a song they wrote in honor of those affected by that day. Give it a listen.
Must-Read: The Moral Bucket List
This New York Times article has been floating around the Internet this month. In it, the author talks about two sets of virtues: resume virtues and eulogy virtues and how really, the eulogy virtues should be the ones we focus on in life. He studied deeply good people and found ways to become deeply good himself. This is a must-read for everyone!
Dress for Success Austin
My friend Amy wrote this awesome piece about a non-profit called Dress for Success for Citygram Magazine and you should read it!
On the Blog This Month
I shared all about my Costa Rica trip.
I hosted a fun craft party!
Quote to Live By
In reading a tribute to a brave and dedicated man who died in the Mount Everest avalanche last weekend, I found this quote by George Bernard Shaw and it’s been on my mind. Is your life everything you want it to be?
“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it over to future generations.”
Lend a Helping Hand
An earthquake caused villages in Nepal to crumble last weekend, killing 5,000 people and counting. Food and shelter are the beginnings of helping the country heal. I encourage you to give to the Red Cross or Save the Children.
