Birthday
My birthday was a week-long celebration and as “low-key” as it was compared to years past, it was perfect. It included lots of time with friends; dinners at Monkey King Noodle Company, Olamaie, Jacoby’s and Licha’s; brunch at South Congress Café; donuts at Glazed; and cupcakes from Cupcaking Desire. My birthday timing is growing on me. It’s in-between Thanksgiving and Christmas and a timely reminder to give thanks.

Austin Food and Wine Alliance 2014 Culinary Grant Winners
I had the honor of being at the Austin Food and Wine Alliance’s 2014 Culinary Grant event last week where the year’s hard work and fundraising showed its true worth. Five organizations received grants to bring new and life-changing opportunities to the Austin culinary community, and I look forward to supporting them. Read all about the winners here.
Holiday Gifts
Speaking of the holidays, are you preparing gifts? In the past few years, I’ve loved giving a mix of different gifts and this year I think I’m going to focus on local Austin makers and homemade gifts. I think it’s fun to gift something thoughtful to celebrate the memories of this year and look forward to the next. If you’re looking for unique gifts, check out this post about gifts that give back.
