Post-Wedding
After spending the first week or so of the month in Indonesia, I am back in Austin and trying to remember what normal life is like without wedding planning. I’ve learned this is called the post-wedding blues. It comes from not having something to look forward to after the wedding and the general void where the emotions and anticipation were. For me, there are certainly exciting things coming, like blog things and marathon training. I’ve been getting back into working out and filling my schedule with holiday plans, like this list of things to do this fall.
Lessons from Couples Therapy
A husband and wife went to a very expensive therapist and this is what they learned! Some of these points are very obvious but it’s another thing to stop and put them into action.
More Love
Gosh, life is hard. Why? Brené Brown puts it into words so well. We’re so tired. Tired of non-stop hate, tired of being burnt out, tired of heartache. If you’re feeling the same, give this post a read. In summary, know what your values and priorities are and let them lead your life.
Hair Care
My friend Janna puts a lot of time and effort into skincare, one thing I’ve been trying to do in the last couple of years. She posted about hair care this month and it looks like I need to give more love to my hair and scalp.

Facing Our Fears
What are you afraid of? Editors of the website HelloGiggles shared some of their fears in this article. Many of these sound so familiar from my conversations and observations. These are some of my fears:
- I’m scared I’m going to make the wrong choice when it comes to whether or not we’ll have kids. I don’t want to regret missing the experience of being a mom, but it’s hard to imagine my life with kids.
- I’m scared of running my first marathon. I talked about those fears in this post. It will be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done!
Photo Coincidence
Can you believe these photos are all from coincidence? A photographer spent days waiting for visitors matching paintings to show up to snap these shots!
Giving Better Advice
I’ve heard and probably given unsolicited advice plenty in my life. From experience, it is stressful and causes a strain in a relationship. This New York Times post gives some helpful ways to give advice and communicate your opinions. Even if you are trying to be helpful, the person receiving the advice may not take it that way. Asking for permission is a great idea!
Life, Happiness, and Gratitude
Stephen Colbert’s recent interview with Anderson Cooper shared about living with painful memories. His thoughtful quote that came from it: “It’s a gift to exist, and with existence comes suffering.” Loss can be devastating and life is not without pain. That pain makes us who we are and affects how we interact with others.
Controlling Our Digital Lives
Is your digital life overwhelming you? As someone who is in front of a screen the majority of the time she’s awake, being online seems like a necessity. But there are also obvious connections between screen time and the inability to turn it off. It’s now necessary to evaluate how our online tools help and hurt our lives. This article could help.

UT Professor John Goodenough won the Nobel Prize in chemistry this month. He assisted in the development of lithium-ion batteries. He’s also 97 years old!
35 Things
I love this list from Kendi Everyday.
Millennial Dinner Parties
This Vox article shares the evolution of the dinner party. Kids these days (hello, it’s me) don’t send formal invites and host with formal place settings. Gatherings and celebrations don’t need to be fancy.
