New National Park, Who Dis?
Meet Indiana Dunes National Park, officially given the designation of the 61st National Park this month. It has over three miles of Lake Michigan beach and 2,000 acres of trails and dunes to explore. The tallest sand dune in Indiana is here – at 192 feet.
World’s Flower Markets
When I visited San Francisco and Thailand, one of the things I remember is the flower market. If you’re curious, here are the most well-known outdoor flower markets in the world.
Stay in an Arctic Dome
New on my bucket list – how cool would be to stay in an arctic dome in Norway?!
Have You Met Captain McCue?
Did you know the first American female cruise captain took the lead in 2015? Captain Kate McCue is currently on Celebrity Equinox. She wasn’t the first female in the cruise industry. Read all about the history here.
U.S. 20 Favorite Food Cities
What do you think about this list? The top five: New Orleans, LA; Norfolk, VA; Buffalo, NY; San Francisco, CA; and Santa Fe, NM. Austin doesn’t make the list but Houston and Dallas land at 19 and 20, respectively.
Saving Money for Travel
The blog The Planet D has some money saving tips for you. I’ve also got a post with some tips. I think it starts with making travel a priority and setting clear goals to save.
Worst Traffic in the World
Next time I’m sitting in traffic, I’ll think about this list and remember it’s not so bad. Can you believe there’s only one U.S. city on this list and probably not the one you’re thinking of? (It’s Boston, not NYC or LA!) We went to Mexico City last year (#4 on this list) and while we weren’t in gridlock all the time, the time spent in a car did seem a little longer than it needed to be. Flowing but still a lot of cars on the road. How there aren’t more Asian cities on this list makes me wonder if it’s flawed.
Foods to Try When You Travel
When I plan my trips, I make sure to look up foods and dishes to try. Eating local foods and drinks gives a peek into the culture and traditions. This list contains some dishes to try when you travel. From experience, I would recommend khao soi in Northern Thailand, fry jacks in Belize (and parts of the Caribbean), and fava bean falafel in Egypt. (Click those links to see all the eats and drinks I enjoyed in each country!)
New National Geographic Barbie Dolls
This new collection of Barbies is exciting! These are fun, science- and conservation-themed roles, such as Polar Marine Biologist, Photojournalist, Astrophysicist, Wildlife Conservationist, and Entomologist (insect scientist).
Is Globalization Bad?
Enjoyed this post from Nomadic Matt. It’s an interesting way to think about things. What do you think?
