One more month of summer! Can you believe it? I hope you’ve enjoyed your trips and adventure or are excitedly planning fall trips. Maybe a getaway?
Best 100 Hotels in the World
The annual results of Travel + Leisure’s reader survey are out, including the top 100 hotels in the world. These are some beautiful places if you’re looking for a luxury stay.
Harry Potter Hotel
If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you should stay at the Wizard Chamber at the Georgian House Hotel in London. It’s subtly decorated as if you were at Hogwarts. Related, has anyone been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Is it worth the visit? I went to Universal Studios as a kid but it was before this part of the park was open.
Champing
Move over glamping (glamorous camping), it’s time for champing (church camping). Yep, historic churches in the UK have opened up for stays March to September. It’ll cost $55-65 per adult per night and an extra $27 for bedding. But, you’ll have the church all to yourself. Would you do it?
To the Middle of Nowhere
Have you ever been outside in a place so dark, the stars light up the sky? (This reminds me of my stay in Terlingua in West Texas.) There’s a train trip from Nevada that will take you for two hours of stargazing with telescopes and astronomy guides on hand. Then, why not end the night by sleeping in a caboose?!
29 New UNESCO Sites
From cultural or architectural significance to natural phenomena, UNESCO World Heritage sites are added to the list every year for preservation and recognition. This year’s list includes a Buddhist temple in Myanmar, eight Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the U.S., and the Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. See the additions here.
Iceland
“Icelanders tire of disrespectful Instagram influencers,” the headline reads. Travelers looking for an epic photo, especially in an incredibly beautiful place like Iceland are making a mess of the environment. Maybe the Icelandic Pledge will help with this. Or maybe more closures to damaged areas will deter travelers from visiting.
Stay in a Wine Barrel
Not only would it be cool to stay in a vineyard, but these wine barrel rooms are pretty cool! Anyone visiting Portugal soon?
The McFly 80s House
You can find some interesting rentals on Airbnb, including this 80s house in Dallas. It reminds me of FOMO Factory, the “Instagram museum” we had in Austin for a few months.
Next Great Food Destination
What place do you think is the next great food destination? This article suggests Costa Rica. This article has some predictable places like Montreal, Canada, and Singapore. I think many cities are finding that elevating and promoting their culinary creativity are bringing in tourism. Food shows and social media are also sparking curiosity for different cuisines. You could find unique culinary experiences and talented chefs anywhere you go, especially when the industry moves as quickly as Austin.
Austin, TX, USA
Speaking of Austin, I’m always happy to plug my town to travelers. With good, albeit hot right now, weather, good eats, and funky culture, Austin is one of those cities where you’ll have fun and not feel overwhelmed by the things to see and eat. If you’re looking for recommendations, here are some posts to check out:
