Wanderlust? Me too! My quarterly Fearless Wanderlust posts will keep you informed about travel news and give you inspiration for your next trip.
We’re on the cusp of summer. Have you been planning trips? The world has opened up more and more since the last edition of Fearless Wanderlust in January. It is great to see!
For people who depend on tourism and travel for their income, a sense of normalcy is returning. But it is also an opportunity to do things differently, better than before. I hope it means less over-tourism so that nature can have time to recover and people can be more thoughtful about their travel plans.
I’ve been making summer plans and it will be a handful of local trips – San Antonio, Houston, Wimberley, and Galveston. Visiting a Texas river has become an annual adventure and it’s been a few years since last visiting these Texas cities. I’m looking forward to relaxing and eating! If you’re looking for options in Texas, see this post about day trips and weekend getaways.
Walking Around Canada
A new 435-mile walking route in Prince Edward Island, Canada has some beautiful views!
Canceled Flights
Airports and airlines are feeling the return of travel. In Austin, I’ve seen news of canceling and automatic rescheduling of flights and hours-long waits to get through security in the last couple of months. Why is this happening? Shortage of pilots, shortage of airport staff, reduced flight schedules, and weather are some reasons. See this article for more details.
Cenotes in Mexico
I recently read an article about disappearing Mexican cenotes due to construction. Cenotes are a diving attraction, so I’m hoping to make it there before there is major destruction. They’re also places to swim and to marvel. See this post by Adventurous Kate 50+ cenotes to visit.
Adventure Travel Here
If you’re looking to do some adventure travel, these 15 countries could be on your list. My top pick based on where I haven’t been yet: Australia.
Running Vacation
Love running and traveling? I learned about this company called Vacation Races which hosts races in beautiful places like the U.S. National Parks.
Best Food Cities
A big part of my travels is eating! I love discovering the local cuisine, going on food tours, and trying new restaurants. This Eater list shares 13 cities in the world that are somewhat underrated yet have an exciting foodie scene. One of those cities is close – San Antonio. It’s one of the reasons why I visited for my bachelorette party and why I’m looking forward to visiting this summer.
Pasta Adventures
Do you know 67 types of pasta? Well, now you will. See this article to learn more.
Where to Go Next
If you’re having trouble deciding where to go next, here’s a quick quiz that presents you with a location. My quiz result gave me Finland!
Guatemala
I hadn’t considered Guatemala for my travels but this post from Matador makes me want to visit.
Best New Hotels in the World
These new hotels are incredible – picturesque, luxurious, and glamorous. Luxury hotels are not what I typically book when I travel but I love the design of these properties and I’m sure they have the hospitality service to match.
Happy traveling this summer!
P.S. Pictured above is the rooftop patio of one of Austin’s newest hotels – Thompson Austin. You can see this view when dining in their restaurant Wax Myrtles. I didn’t love the food but I did love the design.
