Wanderlust? This quarter’s Fearless Wanderlust post has travel news and inspiration to plan your next trip.
Here’s the final quarterly installment of Fearless Wanderlust for the year! Travel has evolved so much in the last two years and continues to do so. If you’re like me, I’m sure you’re evaluating the rising cost of travel and the effects labor shortage has on travel. No matter how we do it, I think travel is necessary as a reset for daily life, an opportunity to experience something new, and to connect with others. Whether it’s an hour’s drive away or two plane rides away, I hope you’re already planning trips!
Road Trip Fun
Taking a road trip? The website Make My Drive Fun will give you options along your route to see and do. For example, from Austin to Dallas you could stop to see a mermaid statue, a house with lots of flamingo decor, and a replica of the Munster Mansion.
Cruise Through the U.S.
Yes, you read that right. This river cruise goes from Minneapolis to Pittsburgh, sailing through 10 states and taking 23 days. This new route is the longest itinerary available by the company.
Travel Hacking Tips
Do you travel hack? In other words, do you strategize ways to gain miles and points to redeem for travel? Here’s a very lengthy tutorial on how to do it. It takes a bit of time and effort but it may be worth it to you to travel for free!
Live Your Trip
This article on Afar is a thoughtful one. When I travel, it is very much about seeing as much as possible, which has its pros and cons. There is so much to discover and I want to make the most of the experience. But it’s also important to live in the moment and take in the place instead of checking things off a list. Learning how to go deeper instead of wider (quality over quantity) has been an adventure.
50 States
…and what to do in them! This list shares one thing to do in every state. Can you guess what they have for Texas? Eat brisket! If you need some travel inspiration, this will help.
Rethinking Tourism
This Skift article about how to do tourism with the local community in mind is a good read. It’s an ongoing conversation, especially with the loss of tourism in the last two years. As travelers, we should remember we are guests in the places we travel and we shouldn’t leave destruction behind.
Raccoon City
Did you know Toronto has the highest density of raccoons and the city loves it? To me, it sounds like seeing a raccoon in Toronto is as normal as seeing a squirrel in Austin. So for better or worse, look out for raccoons when you visit Toronto.
Destinations
While travel posts on this blog are sporadic, I love putting them together because I know what it’s like to plan a trip. There is a lot of information out there and many times, not a central place to get it, so I hope my travel guides make it a little easier. You can see everything linked on my Destinations page, but here are some location links to inspire you:
