Although I was on Whole30 the first 23 days of August, I followed it up with eats at The Park, Picnik, Ola Poke and a Char-Broil event.
Whole30 Homemade Eats
From August 1st-23rd, I mostly ate homemade eats for every meal. Have you ever gone that long without eating out? I definitely haven’t! You can see the recipes I enjoyed in this Whole30 post.
Cupcakes from Polkadots Cupcake Factory
Ok, so I ate cupcakes the morning after Whole30 finished. They were delish!
Eats at The Park
Day 1 of not-Whole30 was celebrated by an Austin Food Blogger Alliance happy hour at The Park’s Domain location. (They also have a South Lamar location.) I had been for drinks and brunch but this was a great reminder of the food offerings. My favorites were the Mini Cornflake Chicken Tacos and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Fried Ice Cream.
Having recently finished Whole30, I felt a mental shock when I started eating the things I had denied myself for 30 days. It felt dirty! So, I ventured to Picnik’s newly opened brick-and-mortar to enjoy dinner. Along with its food trailer in South Austin, Picnik is known as a paleo restaurant focusing on better ingredients to fit any dietary needs. Their soup of the day – Beef Fajita – was SO tasty! I was almost licking the bowl clean!
The Fried Brussels Sprouts are mixed with crispy pork belly, Parmesean, and house vinaigrette. People might be tired of Brussels sprouts but I am definitely not, especially when it’s combined with melt-in-your-mouth pork belly.
Their signature Blondie (grass-fed butter, eggs, almond meal, coconut sugar, chocolate chunks) is incredibly decadent and delicious! I need to return because that sweet potato hash and butter bone broth are calling my name.
I had my first poke bowl! These bowls are a cross between a taco salad and deconstructed sushi. At Ola Poke, you can choose hot items off the menu or go down the line and choose what you want in your bowl. I got brown rice with salmon, ahi poke, seaweed salad, avocado, kale, pineapple and house sauce. It tasted fresh and light!
Char-Broil – a company that makes charcoal, gas, and electric outdoor grills – held a cool grill party at Jacoby’s Restaurant. They served brisket, chicken, corn, watermelon, and pizza straight from the grill. They poured some tasty drinks and the Melvin Mule was my favorite. And you KNOW I loved the s’mores bar with make-your-own s’mores!
