Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations!
Austin Food Blogger Alliance Happy Hour at Shady Grove Restaurant (Complimentary)
Our food blogger group descended on this classic Austin restaurant and they happily shared their favorite dishes with us. From their burger and fried shrimp to their tamale cakes and peanut butter pie, Shady Grove is one of those restaurants that you’re always glad you visited. We were so grateful for their hospitality!
Dinner from Home Slice Pizza
What do you do on a Friday night with no plans and no desire to go out? You pick up a pizza on the way home from your workout. My fiancé had never had Home Slice and I don’t know how that happened but we remedied that situation! You can’t go wrong with pepperoni and mushroom.
Poke and Acai Bowls Me So Poke (Complimentary)
I love 101 by TeaHaus so I was excited to try Me So Poke, their new poke shop. Yum! This place is delicious, a good amount of food for the price, and they have acai bowls. Wins all around!
Breakfast at Rosen’s Bagels
I had Rosen’s Bagels once and since then, they’ve been this magical memory in my mind. It’s been at least a year since I had them so we swung by. Sadly, the lox bagel wasn’t quite the same, so that memory will remain my best lox experience.
Craft Beer at Lazarus Brewing Co
My fiancé sometimes complains that I go to new places without him (thanks to all my foodie friends!), so I took him back to a brewery I liked on my first visit – Lazarus. They had beers we both like (I go for hops, he goes for stouts and malt), and I like their huge patio. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a brewery near downtown Austin.
Lunch at Fat Dragon
Craving soup dumplings? We headed back to Fat Dragon. This time we had plenty of spicy – soup dumplings plus udon ramen and a stone pot with beef. All solid dishes and helped this restaurant solidify a place on my favorites list.
Shivy’s Indian Restaurant Cooking Class at East Austin Culinary Studio (Complimentary)
I’ve been following East Austin Culinary Studio for a while and the owner Amanda offered a complimentary spot in a cooking class. This studio is a new space in the Mueller area available for cooking classes and personal cooking events. Chef Shivy is currently working on opening his restaurant in Austin. We learned how to make channa masala and fried bhatura. It was mouth-wateringly good, and I can’t wait to try making it at home!
Happy Hour at Lucky Robot
Did you know Lucky Robot is the first sustainable sushi restaurant in Texas? That means their fish is responsibly harvested so that it doesn’t harm ecosystems, whether its wild populations or the environment. That in itself makes you feel good about eating there. To add to that, they have a great happy hour and their dishes are impressive. My favorites were the king cebiche, beef hot rock, and kanpachi serrano.
Breakfast at Cuvee Coffee (Complimentary)
You might have drunk their coffee around town but have you been to Cuvee Coffee’s coffee shop in East Austin? The nitro cold brew will definitely get you ready for the day and the blue mural inside is perfectly Austin. I also recommend the honey lavender latte and pastries.
Korean BBQ at Charm Korean BBQ
We missed out on the barbecue on our last visit because it was full but not this time! Did you know their Korean bbq is all-you-can-eat? We ate a ridiculous amount of meat. The marinated beef ribs were our favorite!
Happy Hour at Easy Tiger
I’m pretty sure you can’t go to Easy Tiger without eating a pretzel with beer cheese. It’s a must-order! Also, pastries are always a good idea. Their lemon cake and anything with a flaky outside, like a croissant, are excellent. This visit was at their newer Linc location and I’m loving the plentiful parking and patio.
Cookie and Cocktail at Uncle Nicky’s
This Hyde Park spot that took over Dolce Vita is a casual, darling cafe for a low-key cocktail and snack. It’s inspired by Italian cafes, which reminds me of slow, relaxing afternoons. Be sure to try their special rice crispy snickerdoodle cookie.
Tiki Drinks at Last Straw
Why are tiki drinks so good? Is it because they’re dangerously drinkable? Because they’re sweet without being too sweet? If you’re craving a tiki drink, get over to Last Straw on the east side. You’ll love the forever summer vacation vibes!
