Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
Based on research, our neighborhood restaurants have a 30% chance of staying open post-pandemic. That is a terrible statistic, and I hope the researchers are wrong. Things like that stat are why I want to support local restaurants and encourage you to do the same in a safe manner.
If you’re interested in supporting one of the below businesses, check out their website for the most updated status and ordering options. Thank you for supporting local!
Cake from Polkadots Bakery
Supporting my favorite bakery in town with something sweet for us! Did you know they made our delicious wedding cake?
Craft Beer from Zilker Brewing
One of my favorite weekend activities is hanging out at a brewery with friends. Will and I have played Connect 4 at a few breweries around Austin and there is always a new beer to try. I picked up a six-pack of Heavenly Daze, a hazy IPA, from Zilker Brewing, and I love it! (Kaira liked licking the cold can on a hot day.)
Cocktail Kit from HipStirs (Complimentary)
I was excited to try a cocktail kit from a new Austin company, HipStirs. It’s a perfect weekend treat and it’s a fun activity when you’re at home. My kit, which made about four servings, was the Black Beauty, a cocktail with tequila, blackberry mint syrup, ginger beer, limes, and mint sprigs. Hip Stirs has different types of cocktails and releases new ones every week, so in place of going out, bring the mixologist experience home!
Ice Cream from Nadamoo
Since we’ve been doing HEB curbside, we aren’t able to get all the things we usually buy. Since I was out running errands, anyways, I stopped by the Nadamoo scoop shop to pick up some pints that would last us for a while. Rockiest Road is probably the favorite in our house.
Dinner from Phantasma Kitchen (Complimentary)
Phantasma Kitchen opened recently and they’re serving up Roman-style pizza, wings, and sandwiches to-go and through delivery. They were so gracious to let me try some of their dishes on them. We got two pizzas – La Phantasma (tomato, mozzarella, prosciutto di parma, artichokes, mushrooms, and olives) and the Scaredy-Cat (straight pepperoni) – rosemary garlic parmesan and buffalo wings, and bourbon chocolate chip cookies. All of it was really good!
Barbecue from Stiles Switch
Do you ever crave barbecue? We did! We put in an order for a family pack and it was delicious! If only we had unlimited sides like Korean barbecue’s banchan. It was hard to pick only two sides. This time around we chose potato salad (my must-have every time) and mac-and-cheese.
Craft Beer from The Brewtorium
This beer sounded too good to pass up. The Juicy Randy is a New England IPA from The Brewtorium, where we also stopped by for some flour. (We’ve been baking a lot around here!)
Dinner from First Chinese BBQ
This restaurant closed shortly after shelter-in-place went into effect, but now they’re back! I got to fulfill my wonton and noodle cravings. Plus “invented” this cool new move: the wonton raise with a noodle pull.
What was your favorite thing you ate recently?
