Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
Picnic at Barr Mansion
Usually a popular wedding and event venue in Austin, Barr Mansion has pivoted slightly and is hosting public picnics on Wednesday nights. Order pizzas and dessert ahead of time to reserve your spot. My friends and I did this and since we are all being cautious, it was nice to get out and do something!
Dinner from Thai Lada
My go-to dish, khao soi, is tasty and spicy from Thai Lada, a restaurant in North Austin.
Still Austin (Complimentary)
Still Austin brought my Austin Food Blogger Alliance friends together to celebrate their NEW straight bourbon whiskey and was so generous in gifting us goodie boxes. Listening to music and drinking whiskey both bring people together and we love our music in Austin. Still Austin named their first bottle in the series “The Musician.” I love how artist Marc Burckhardt has the woman playing her hair guitar! For the happy hour, I made a peach daley with the whiskey. It’s got lemonade, green tea, peaches, and mint. So refreshing!
Lunch at Baby Greens
I’ve passed by this restaurant numerous times and have always been curious about it. This rainbow wrap with green goddess dressing was so good! It’s packed with veggies and will make you wonder why healthy food can’t always taste this good. Top your lunch off with a watermelon agua fresca and a chocolate chip cookie.
Dinner at True Food Kitchen
My first meal dining at a restaurant with a server! We were on the patio, far from other tables, and with a masked server. I was nervous, but the meal was delicious and I felt safe. This experience was a good example of how people can get out and still be cautious and aware. The hospitality industry needs our business and we can help! As always, get the edamame dumplings as an appetizer. This time around, I had the burger and I would order it again.
Thai Desserts from HhomDee
I’ve gotten two deliveries from HhomDee and they are so good! The menu of Thai desserts changes every month, but I have loved the mainstay pandan chiffon cupcakes and I can’t wait to try the pandan layer cake again! I highly recommend trying this out!
Homemade Beef Wellington
My friend Dan would be pretty disappointed if I didn’t share his homemade beef wellington. He’s been perfecting this fancy dish for a while now and I’ve finally been blessed with the invitation to try it. I apologize for the terrible photo; we were dining outside in the semi-dark because this is what dinner parties look like these days. But this dish is a show-stopper – tender meat inside with a decadent layer of pate and then wrapped in a flaky pastry. It’s rich and mouth-watering. Dan also made a side of hasselback potatoes, his other popular dish. This was the most extravagant homemade meal in months and it was fantastic!
Lunch at 101 by TeaHaus
101 by TeaHaus has a new Seoul Burger that has TWO patties marinated in Korean bbq sauce and includes Haus kimchi aioli, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. It’s so juicy and flavorful, it’s become my favorite sandwich on the menu. Complete your meal with bulgogi and kimchi tots and one of their refreshing drinks. I usually do the Jasmine Milk Tea and pictured here is the Orange Big Bang, which is like an orange creamsicle.
Los Olivos Market (Complimentary)
This new spot opened in Buda a few months ago and I loved our visit recently. Los Olivos Market invited me in to try their menu and everything was so tasty! You can read all about what we had in this post.
Dinner at China Family Restaurant
This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in Austin! We tend to order the same things because it’s so good. Dan dan noodles and garlic eggplant are musts. Then we get a protein – this time it was Hunan beef and Sichuan chicken – and a vegetable – fried green beans.
Lunch at Smokin Beauty
A new Vietnamese barbecue restaurant opened up in North Austin! You’ll find banh mi sandwiches with brisket and pork belly and banh mi burgers. I recommend the brisket banh mi and potato salad.
