Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
We started venturing out beyond take-out and dined at a restaurant this month. They were both counter service and quick interactions. Have you dined out yet? Everyone has opinions about it. Since we don’t see elderly family members, we’ve been more open to getting out in a safe manner. Plus, we miss dining out! Here are some flavors I enjoyed in July.
Cookies from Dough Re Mi
This cookie delivery service is run by two high school students in Austin. These mini cookies are a fun treat and 80% of the proceeds are donated to All Together ATX to help the Austin community. I ordered the chocolate chip (OG), s’mores, 4th of July, and shortbread squares.
Poke Bowl from Me So Poke
I miss eating sushi but poke hit the spot! One of my favorite spots is Me So Poke by the same team as 101 by TeaHaus.
Dinner from Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ
I had to introduce Will to a favorite barbecue restaurant in Austin. It was my first time trying their loaded queso with brisket and wow!
Coffee at Houndstooth
Will and I did some long morning bike rides to the Domain area and stopped for some coffee. I’m not sure of the exact name of the drink I got but it is their signature drink with chocolate. It’s very rich and a real treat. I also love their chai latte.
Blue Norther Hard Seltzer (Complimentary)
Blue Norther has the cold front we’re needing in this Texas heat, and they very kindly stocked my fridge with their two flavors: wild blackberry and agave lime. My favorite of the two is the wild blackberry. Sweetened with organic agave and flavored with natural blackberry juice, this hard seltzer will give you all smiles for your next happy hour.
Lunch from Pinthouse Pizza
I typically order The Works, so it was nice to try something new. The Ooh La La pizza has fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, baby arugula, spicy local honey, peppadew peppers, and Parmesan cheese.
Lunch from Hunan Bistro
We’ve been seeking out Hunan-style Chinese food. It’s typically very spicy. We picked up lunch from a new-to-us restaurant in North Austin called Hunan Bistro. We got dan dan noodles, eggplant, and a spicy beef dish. It was a tasty meal!
Lunch from Broth & Basil
I had to try this dish after hearing about it. The Hu Tieu special is noodles with shrimp, pork, dried shrimp, pork belly, fried onions. I picked rice noodles and with broth. (You can get it without broth.) It’s like pho but upgraded! I also recommend getting a Thai green tea and eggrolls. Broth & Basil is in Pflugerville and one of my favorites for Vietnamese food.
Dinner from Tacodeli
I’ve usually gotten breakfast at Tacodeli, so this may be the first time I tried their queso, which was so good! The Roberto’s Brazo Fuerte Queso (loaded queso) has guacamole, pico de gallo, and beef picadillo. I wouldn’t mind having an order all to myself.
Lunch from Bep Viet
The food court at Hana World, an Asian supermarket in North Austin, has gems! While Bep Viet currently has an abbreviated menu, it’s a strong one. The Shaken Beef dish is SO good! I also loved their Thai green tea.
Breakfast at Bakery Lorraine
On another bike ride to the Domain area, we stopped for breakfast at Bakery Lorraine. It was technically the first place we ate food out, even though it was counter service. It was refreshing because it was quiet early in the morning. It was a nice reminder of how fun eating out used to be. The delicious quiche and cinnamon roll definitely sweetened the experience!
What was your favorite thing you ate recently?
