Flavors of the Month is a monthly feature of some of the dishes and restaurants I enjoyed. Check out this post for restaurant and menu recommendations!
Dinner at Tito Adobo
There’s a new-ish food truck in town and it’s serving Filipino food. I tried the pork taco with apple-jicama slaw plus an ube horchata. I want to go back for the rice bowl!
Decorated Cookies at Hayleycakes and Cookies
Hayleycakes has the most adorable cookies AND they taste so good! They opened a shop in town (the first shop is way out in West Austin) and I dare you to go there and choose only one cookie. These are the goodies my friends Janna and Kathy and I picked up.
Lunch at Shake Shack
I don’t eat fast food chains very often, so when I do (probably once every few months) I want it to be good! Shake Shack is worth it every time, ever since my first bite in New York five years ago.
Breakfast at Deli News (Dallas)
We did a quick trip to Dallas and enjoyed breakfast at this hopping spot. Apparently, this New York-style deli was the place to be on Sunday morning. I loved the Challah French toast, and the Deli Sampler featured pastrami, corned beef, and grilled salami.
Apps and Pizza at Bufalina
This restaurant is the perfect spot for date night and it didn’t seem to have the usual Friday night rush when we visited. Loved the gnocchi, panzanella salad, and the pepperoni pizza here!
Summer Flavors at Lick Ice Cream
Summer is in full swing and you know what that means – summer flavors! I stopped by Lick to enjoy a few of theirs. Blackberry, Lime, & Basil was my favorite flavor with Dewberry Corn Cobbler close behind. Blushing Blueberry and Honeyed Peches with Rosemary are two summer flavors I come back to. If you’re interested, Lick is celebrating National Ice Cream Month (July) with fundraising efforts for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Check it out on their website.
Cold Treats at Churro Co
My annual cold treats list has been updated! Have you checked it out yet? It features 30 of my favorite places for a cold treat and it’s perfect for summer. New on the list is Churro Co with their churro sundae. This one is called Date Night and features churros tossed in popcorn sugar, vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, and a dash of sea salt.
Homemade Cookbook Eats
Back on the wagon! I stalled in the cookbook challenge cooking for a few weeks and finally picked it back up and made a few recipes this month. These three were all fantastic.
Summer Flavors at Tiny Pies (Complimentary Media Tasting)
One of my faves – Tiny Pies – has a Summer Pie Social series going on featuring collaboration pies. I was invited to try their special flavors. These pies use ingredients from some of Austin’s favorite vendors. Check out the collaborations:
- Root Beer Float Pie – Partner: Maine Root
- Ricotta & Honey Pie – Partner: Antonelli’s Cheese Shop & Good Flow Honey
- Bourbon Butterscotch Apple Pie – Partner: Garrison Brothers Distillery
- Violet Crown Blackberry Pie – Partner: The Austin Winery
- Double Espresso Chocolate Pie – Partner: High Brew Coffee & SRSLY Chocolate
- Vegan Berry Pie – Partner: Lick Honest Ice Creams
Lunch at Sour Duck Market
You may know I’m a big fan of the restaurants Odd Duck and Barley Swine. Their newest restaurant is a casual eatery with a big bakery! [You know I love pastries.] I added their kouign amann to my list.
For lunch, we enjoyed fried mushrooms, carrots, Wagyu burger, pork belly sando, and a few of their pastries. Be sure to try the honey bun!
Wimberley Eats
Did you see our little trip to Wimberley? Beer, pizza, and Brussels sprouts are some of the things we enjoyed.
Milk Tea at Gong Cha
A new chain boba place opened up and it’s less than a minute’s walk from my work. Very dangerous! I tried the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with 50% sweetness on my first visit. If I get it again I would bump it down to 30% sweetness. There are so many drinks I want to try!
Happy Hour and Dinner at Suerte
Hooray – made it to Suerte! This Mexican restaurant opened in March. You should order the Suadero Tacos (confit brisket) and Green Chorizo Tlayuda (like a supersized tostada). Mushroom Frito is a great veggie option. For drinks, the Nada Paloma is refreshing. We also tried the chicken with mole and mango dessert but I’d try new dishes on another visit.
