Breakfast at Teal House Coffee & Bakery with Austin Food Blogger Alliance (Complimentary)
How mouth-wateringly delicious does this cinnamon roll look?! Teal House invited our food blogger group to brunch and we indulged in cinnamon rolls, croissants, and kolaches. All so delicious! It’s impressive they make all of this happen in a food trailer. These cinnamon rolls are a must-try!
Noodles at Mama Noy’s Kitchen
This noodle dish is kow poon from Mama Noy’s and it is so good. It’s a Laotian coconut curry noodle soup, also known as laksa and spelled khao poon or kapoon. (It tastes similar to my favorite Thai dish, khao soi.) Here we’ve got noodles, ground pork, squash, green beans, basil, and lots of spice! This was my first time having Laotian food and definitely not the last.
Dinner at Hunan Spicy
In the place of Szechuan House, Hunan Spicy has opened. We didn’t like the beef dish we got but the spicy fried chicken dish was ok and I did enjoy the red oil wontons.
Lunch at Kome
It’s been way too long since I’ve been here! Kome is consistently good. The gyu-don (beef rice bowl) with an egg and the hokkai-don (salmon rice bowl) were both excellent! I also recommend their ramen and sashimi.
Gelato at Dolce Bacio (Complimentary)
You’ve got to cool off at this summer! My new friends Francesca and Dante have an amazing gelato company and were so sweet to let me try all the flavors. The strawberry and peachango (peach mango) were my favorites. Look for their food trailer on the east side or their gelato bike around town!
Lunch at Sixth and Waller at East Austin Hotel
A new hotel is open in East Austin and their casual restaurant Sixth and Waller is serving some tasty dishes. We had the vegan kale caesar salad, chips and guacamole, and ceviche – all light and refreshing. Their cookie of the day was Thai tea and we also had their sesame peanut butter rice krispy. Both left me wanting more.
Miami Vice at Last Straw
Does any other bar say summer like Last Straw? Their Miami Vice drink is a mix of pina colada and strawberry daiquiri served in a pineapple.
Austin Food Blogger Alliance Wine Tasting at Infinite Monkey Theorem (Complimentary)
This urban winery hosted our food blogger group for an educational session. We learned all about the types of wine they produce and got a quick tour of their production. I don’t usually drink wine other than at dinner, but their cans are perfect for summer drinking by the pool or on the river. I liked their peach bellini!
Chicken from Austin Rotisserie (Complimentary)
Austin Rotisserie is the food truck at Infinite Monkey Theorem and they were so kind as to give us some bites to try. They definitely know what they’re doing with their roasted chicken. Highly recommend!
Dinner at Foreign and Domestic
Finally! Foreign and Domestic has been on my list forever! We had plenty of delicious dishes when we went for dinner, including the crispy fish collar, steak tartare, Parisian gnocchi and oyster mushrooms, lamb campanelli, beef tongue, and half a heart lamb dish. We ended with the cast iron black tea and apple crumble. It’s really hard to pick a favorite dish, so that must be a good sign! The fish collar and the Parisian gnocchi are two I would definitely order again.
Dessert at SnoMo (Complimentary)
SnoMo’s team invited me out for a tasting. It’s been a while since I’ve been, but it was one of our constants when we dined in the area. I learned they do soy shaved ice (dairy-free) and they also have rice pudding and waffles. SnoMo is a solid choice for dessert, and they’ve been on my cold treats list every year!
