Here are a few Austin restaurants I picked up take-out from last month. We haven’t dined out yet, even on a restaurant patio, but we’ve done take-out.
Seafood from Krab Kingz
One of Will’s favorite foods is crab and we finally tried out Krab Kingz in Pflugerville. (They also have a trailer in Downtown Austin.) We got two Krab and Shrimp Platters and I admit – I couldn’t finish it because it was so big! Don’t worry, Will helped me out. 🙂 This is a black-owned restaurant in Austin. You can see more restaurant options on this map!
The Popeyes Chicken Sandwich
Last year, Popeyes’ chicken sandwich created long lines, fights, and scavenger hunts. Not a fan of lines, I ignored it. Well, we recently got a quick drive-through dinner and I’ve been raving about this sandwich since. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve ever been to Popeyes before!
Still Austin Gin Cocktails (Complimentary)
You know I love Still Austin! They sent me a cocktail kit to celebrate World Gin Day on June 13th. I whipped together some bee’s knees cocktails and they were delicious! This gin was perfect for it. Here’s the recipe if you want to make some cocktails at home: 1oz lemon juice, 1.5oz Still Austin Rye Gin, and a half oz of honey syrup (a mixture of honey and warm water).
Sandwiches from Dipdipdip Tatsu-ya
One of my favorite take-out meals recently is this one from Dipdipdip Tatsu-ya. Shrimp Tempura Sandwich with avocado, tomato, negi (onion), and tonkotsu sauce. Then you dipdipdip it into the spicy miso before every bite. Will loved the Beef Sandwich and I’ve been dreaming about that unami jus dip that you get with it. We also got a pint of the Coconut Makrut Sorbet with Fresh Mango and that disappeared very quickly throughout the week!
Cinnamon Rolls from Teal House Coffee & Bakery
Which would you choose: cinnamon roll or croissant cinnamon roll? If you like not-so-sweet cinnamon rolls, you’ll be a fan of Teal House Coffee & Bakery’s cinnamon roll. It has more cream cheese than sugar flavor and it’s gooey!
Snacks from Pop Up Grocer
I think I should start a snack budget. I love buying random things to try, so visiting Pop Up Grocer was like an amusement park. You can read all about my experience and what I bought in this post.
Cookies from Thoroughbread
I am sad and glad that I have just recently tried Thoroughbread’s famed stuffed cookies. They were one of the best desserts I’ve eaten recently! I got one of each: chocolate chip, peanut butter and jelly, and banana and Nutella.
Ramen from Komé
I satisfied my ramen craving with take-out from Komé! The Shio Ramen comes with chicken broth and shredded chicken.
The Best Tomatoes
We’ve been getting tomatoes in our CSA box and they have been delicious! Here’s a tomato and cheese sandwich creation with stuff we had in the kitchen.
Lunch at Kitchen United Mix (Complimentary)
I was excited to visit a new place in town called Kitchen United Mix. It is a ghost or cloud kitchen where each restaurant has its own kitchen space in the back and share a storefront for customers to pick-up their orders. I tried Hawt Chicken’s spicy chicken sandwich, Hawaiian Bros huli huli chicken and musubi, Bao’d Up’s Thai tea, and Teji’s garlic naan. They have 12 restaurants right now, so I can’t wait to go back and try more!
What was your favorite thing you ate recently?
