Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations!
This month’s post reminded me about how much I love these flavor of the month posts! I get to re-live these dishes and encourage you to go try them for yourself.
Dinner at Biryani Pot
I’ve been trying to branch out to new-to-me restaurants in my area, especially the Indian and Asian options. Always researching for my Best North Austin Restaurants list! We had a good dinner at Biryani Pot, a U.S. chain restaurant. My aloo-gobi marsala (potato and cauliflower stew) was very flavorful and Will’s goat stew was good also. Their naan is very garlicky and delicious!
Farm-to-Table Day
For my farm-to-table challenge this month, I visited Pure Luck Farm & Dairy to see their baby goats and goat cheese production. Our meals had some delicious goat cheese and plenty of beets! See all the details here.
Sandwich at The Pickle House
We were a fan of Pogue Mahone Pickles at the farmers market and now they’ve opened up a restaurant called The Pickle House in South Austin off 290. This chicken salad sandwich was amazing! I must go back for the fried chicken because you know their pickle juice makes it extra delicious!
Craft Beer and Pizza at Oddwood Ales
I visited Oddwood Ales again because they dazzled me the first time. If you like hops, you’ll love their beers. What goes better with beer than pizza? Their thin-crust pies were a hit with me. They were also giving out slices of their special “cartoon” dessert pizza with strawberries and cereal on it. I liked that one too and hope they put it on their menu.
Sushi at Tsukimi
A new sushi restaurant opened in North Austin and we decided to try their sashimi omakase. This big plate features many different types of fish. When we go back, I think we’ll order from their sushi specialty section because we prefer sashimi dressed with sauce, like Hamachi
Crawfish Shack
‘Tis the season! Are you all fans of crawfish? Our go-to is Crawfish Shack but we also go to Deckhand if it’s too busy. These restaurants are usually packed, so get there early and be willing to wait for a table.
Homemade Pop Tarts
My friend Kaylin and I decided to get together and make pop tarts, inspired by our friend Alyssa’s recipe. They turned out delicious!
In-and-Out Burgers
Sometimes you just want a burger even if fast food is your best option. In-and-Out isn’t my favorite fast food burger but it was the closest. I’m curious – what’s your favorite fast food burger? I think my top three would be P.Terry’s, Shake Shack, and Whataburger.
Las Vegas
We had a quick, 32-hour trip to Las Vegas for our friends’ wedding. I didn’t get to eat all the things I had planned but I did detail them, including this meal from Pok Pok Wing, in my new Las Vegas Travel Guide post.
What was your favorite thing you ate recently?
