Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
We didn’t eat out as much in March, but I’m trying to get take-out once a week to support our restaurant industry and to have something to look forward to in the future. If you feel comfortable getting food to-go or delivered, it is safe to do so.
For the most accurate information, follow World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Protection guidelines. Recommendations:
- Opt for contactless pick-up or delivery of food or stay 6 feet away during pick-up or delivery. That means online payment is best.
- Carefully transfer your food from to-go containers to plates, throw away the containers, and wash your hands before you eat. This is in case the containers are contaminated.
As of April 3, 2020, all of these restaurants are open for to-go orders. Most have online order and payment with an option of curbside delivery.
Lunch at Uroko
Remember this restaurant I posted about a few months ago? My friend Janna and I popped in for lunch. Their hand-rolls are a perfect, quick lunch. They are currently offering hand-rolls and omakase to-go.
Pastries at Julie Myrtille
After lunch at Uroko, Janna and I went next door for dessert. This bakery opened recently after being a farmers market regular and is a great place for pastries. I loved the apple pastry. I hear their quiche is amazing!
Cookie from The Cookie Counter
Michelle from The Cookie Counter met up and she was sweet to bring me one of her beautiful cookies. She’s the one who made the Chinese New Year cookies I posted about last month. Her cookies are so beautiful and she puts a lot of love and time in each cookie! She takes custom orders and does flash sales, so keep watch on her Instagram page.
Pizza at Backdraft Pizzeria
Our last opportunity to dine out was at this pizza food trailer located at 4th Tap Brewing Co-op, which is currently open for curb-side pick-up. The Shrooms to the Moon pizza with mushrooms, sausage, and caramelized onions is really good.
Lunch at Broth and Basil
I’ve been meaning to try this Pflugerville restaurant for a while! I got the vermicelli bowl with charbroiled beef and it was delicious! This was my first experience at Broth and Basil, but one day, I’ll be back to dine in the restaurant.
Rotisserie Chicken Salad at Inka Chicken
The rotisserie chicken and fried plantains here are so good! I like to order the Inka Quinoa Bowl with Chicken. They have a drive-through window, so you’ll be able to stay in your car.
Steamies Dumplings
This company is one of my favorite stops at the farmers market. They opened up their retail shop, so now you can get their dumplings every day of the week! I picked up their chicken and shiitake, soup dumplings, wontons, and bbq pork puff pastries. We’ve made all but the wontons so far and they’re so good! They are offering curbside pick-up right now.
Lunch from 101 by TeaHaus
You know I’m a fan of this restaurant! For this take-out meal, I got their basil fried chicken, basil fried tofu, Japanese curry, kimchi, and a milk tea. It was enough for a few meals. They’re currently offering $5 meals and family packs.
Virtual Crawfish Boil with Crawfish Shack
We were excited to host our 5th annual crawfish boil this year, but the universe had other plans. Instead, we and our friends each picked up a crawfish order from Crawfish Shack and hopped online for a virtual crawfish boil. At our house, we set up our table outside like we usually do.
Pastries from Easy Tiger
Our visit to Easy Tiger was spurred by needing eggs, so we used the opportunity to buy flour, sourdough starter, and pastries. Easy Tiger has a drive-through window at their location at The Linc, the only location open right now. Their cinnamon knot is so good!
Lunch from Komé
My go-to order at Komé is the gyu-don, shredded beef rice bowl. They also have tasty bento boxes if you want some veggies in your meal. I like their salmon bento box. You’ve got to order a side of komé fries! It comes with wasabi aioli.
