Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations!
Breakfast at Café Java
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Café Java. It’s one of my favorites in Austin because it’s no frills, good breakfast food. I went with my go-to, the Hill Country Platter that comes with biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, and hashbrowns. We also usually get an order of French toast to share because I’m pretty sure breakfast is best with savory and sweet bites!
Dinner at TLC
It’s always time for a seafood boil at TLC. Many times I think the hassle of cracking crab is not worth the bit of meat but it’s also delicious!
Homemade Mother’s Day Brunch
Will’s mom was in town during Mother’s Day so we made this hearty brunch to celebrate. Quiche, cinnamon rolls, banana bread, and sweet potato hash.
Lunch at Tumble 22
Spicy, crispy, juicy chicken sandwich! The slaw on the sandwich was the perfect accompaniment. They also have a spacious patio. Also pictured are the two meat plate and the cobb salad.
Dinner at Hat Creek Burger Company
Have you all tried Hat Creek Burger? This photo looks a little sad but I can ensure you that I enjoyed it, especially the tater tots. I do like some other fast food burgers better but it’s a solid, local Austin option.
Homemade Berry Pie
The only logical solution for an extra pie crust is to make pie! This razzleberry pie had blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. I tried to do a design but that is much harder than it looks! Pie crust warms quickly, so I settled for a simple criss-cross. Can you see where I started to do the over/under criss-cross?
Craft Beer at Central District Brewing
New brewery alert! It has a pretty taproom with a color scheme of emerald and gold. There are currently four of their own beers on tap and beers from other Austin breweries. I didn’t get to try their IPA since they were out, but pale ale was very drinkable.
Homemade Peach Cobbler
With the peaches we picked at Sweet Eats Fruit Farm, I made this tasty peach cobbler. See more details about picking peaches here.
Teo Gelato (Sponsored)
Teo Gelato is now selling pints at Central Market. Mint Chocolate Chip was my favorite flavor as a kid and Teo’s special Caramel Cookie Crunch has so many of my favorite things in one flavor. They have a great variety of flavor options! Their scoop shop is on my Austin cold treats list but you can also get them in your grocery store.
Homemade Grilled Night
Weekend dinners are pretty flexible at our house and one weekend we decided to put some shrimp on the barbie. Will made a mango habanero salsa to go with the shrimp and we also grilled artichokes. It was a tasty and easy dinner at home.
Dinner at She’s Not Here
This tiki pacific Asian restaurant in downtown Austin opened in August of last year. You might recognize Thai and Filipino influences. We enjoyed the tiger cry beef tartar, yellowtail and scallion hand roll, hamachi crudo, bincho sashimi (white tuna), and halo halo for dessert. My only dislike is your bill can easily add up but it would be a good stop for a tiki cocktail and light fare.
