Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations!
Can you believe it’s already time for another Flavors post? Having spent half of the month eating and drinking in Egypt and the rest of it recovering from the trip, this month’s Flavors is a little shorter than usual but still full of fun.
Dinner at Anthem (Complimentary)
My friend Janna and I went to try a new restaurant on Rainey Street. While the restaurant group has restaurants concepts in multiple states, this is the first in Austin. Anthem is all about the tiki theme and I loved their green velvet chairs, colorful wallpaper, and big patio.
We were pretty impressed with our entire meal. The Sunbird is dangerously delicious and comes in a cool tiki cup. Our favorite dish was probably the light and refreshing Nam Nom Noodle Salad – cold flat noodles with cabbage. Hapa Chicken Sandwich has karaage fried chicken thigh on it. The Yummy Fries are loaded sweet potato waffle fries topped with lots of Asian flavors. The Brisket Rangoons were packed with flavor. For dessert, we tried both the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding and the Hong Kong Waffle (green tea bubble waffle with ice cream and toppings), and I say go for the bread pudding!
Dessert at Fluff Meringues
Fluff Meringues is a new dessert shop in Austin, and it is so lovely! Aren’t these pavlovas fun? Choose from their menu or put together your favorite combinations. I recommend the pistachio cream and berries. The yellow cream is passionfruit, which was a little tart for me. You can also get mini meringues, marshmallows, or other baked desserts.
NadaMoo Ice Cream
In my attempt to decrease dairy consumption because of a possible allergy, I picked up a dairy-free, coconut-based ice cream to try. I’m obsessed! My grocery store only carries four of the 15 flavors, and my favorite so far is cookies and cream. NadaMoo opened a brick-and-mortar in Austin this year, so I hope to visit soon!
Baked Goods at Baked by Toni Rivard (Dallas)
I made a quick trip to Dallas for the Taylor Swift concert and had to try out another bakery. Baked by Toni Rivard, formerly named Creme de la Cookie, is known for their cake balls and OMG cookies. Pretty good!
Lunch at Resident Taqueria (Dallas)
I stopped by Resident Taqueria for a late lunch and to catch up with a friend. This is my new favorite quirky taco shop in Dallas. The braised beef short rib taco and the slow-cooked mushroom taco were delicious.
Fall Flavors at Lick Honest Ice Creams (Complimentary)
Fall flavors are back at Lick! They invited me in to taste all the flavors. My favorites are Caramel Apple Cake, Spiced Sweet Potato Pie, and Sweet Persimmons & Sage. New fall flavors this year include Caramel Corn and Chocolate Pecans & Rum. The caramel apple cake flavor has bits of cake in it and it’s so good!
Short but very sweet! I can’t wait for all the holiday eats in November and December!
