Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
Need some options for dine-in or take-out in Austin? Here are some places I’ve tried recently. From my experience, all of these places listed followed safety precautions and I felt safe supporting them.
Drink from Sip Pho
A new-ish pho restaurant in town but I’ll need to come back to try more! I popped in for a quick drink. Taro milk tea was delicious! This restaurant is also so bright and pretty.
Lunch from Little Ola’s Biscuits (Olamaie)
Oh woooooooow. Olamaie knows their biscuits and this year’s pivot has presented us with fried chicken biscuit sandwiches that are out of this world! You need to try it! So juicy and buttery. They’ve also been doing some pastry chef collaborations. This one was a pumpkin cheesecake.
Banh Mi from Baguette House
This is my favorite version of a $5 sandwich and go-to for banh mi in Austin. This long thing has the classic banh mi fillings.
KOKO Pop-Up at 101 by TeaHaus
My friend Jane of A Taste of Koko hosted a pop-up with a special menu at 101 by TeaHaus. (Remember when I wrote about them?) They’re one of my favorite restaurants because it’s approachable and tasty. The pop-up featured delicious waffle cones with ice cream or fried chicken, their famous basil fried chicken, and of course, boba milk teas. They’ve changed up the menu for the holidays, so you can still get variations of these items now.
Lunch at OneTaco
New-ish taco shop in North Austin, though OneTaco has a few locations around town. Their tacos reminded me of eating in Mexico City. I love their carne asada and really, any of the tacos with their melted, crispy cheese.
Craft Beer at 4th Tap and Eats at SXSE Food Co.
One of my favorite new beers this year has been Stay Gold from 4th Tap, so it was a good combination to go try the new food trailer at the brewery – SXSE. It’s a fusion food truck featuring southern and southeast Asian flavors. We tried the beef tacos and the crispy fried rice – both hits!
Noodles Delivered from Chop Chop (Complimentary)
A new delivery company reached out to send me noods! Chop Chop is all about real food, slowly cooked, and frozen fresh for easy mealtimes. These are a good option for work-from-home lunches. I tried the Kimchi Ramen and the Japanese Curry Udon, and their corn and edamame sides. All were delicious and easy to make (I microwaved them).
Lunch at Quality Seafood
When the feeling strikes, you’ve got to get some seafood! Whole lobster, crab clusters, peel-and-eat shrimp, they’ve got it all at Quality Seafood. If you want your seafood straight-up with no frills, you’ve got to dine here! They are open for dine-in or you can order to-go.
Craft Beer and Hard Seltzer at Willard’s Brewery and Food from MOJO
A new brewery is open in North Austin, and I have high hopes for the new brewery tenants! First, their spacious, outdoor patio is a dreamy space! Willard’s has three of their beers on tap, including a hazy IPA that I really liked. You can enjoy more than beer on their spacious patio – they also serve hard seltzer from Big Country Hard Seltzer. Their seltzer cocktails are very refreshing and you can also get a flight of their seltzers. Save room for food; Mojo is their delicious food truck serving Cubano-inspired eats like pupusas, tacos, and a Cubano quesadilla.
Homemade Prime Rib
I’m really lucky to have some really good cooks as friends. My friend Dan hosted Will and I for a distant dinner of homemade prime rib and crispy potatoes. From what I heard, it was a week-long endeavor and I could definitely taste all the hard work!
