A summer of yummy eats! Here are some of the best things I had in July, August, and September.
Dinner at Hopsquad Brewing Co + Doughsquad
When you’re craving beer and pizza, find a local brewery to visit. In North Austin, Hopsquad with food truck Doughsquad is a great option! [See my brewery guide for more options!]
Dessert at Pflour Shop Bakery
This bakery – Pflour Shop Bakery – on Burnet Rd (OG location is in Pflugerville) is ready for all the close-ups. From colorful and flashy decor to an abundance of sweet treats, a stop here will give you a sugar rush!
What I tried:
- peach lemonade
- cinnamon roll
- iced cookie
- bronut (brownie in a donut shape)
- strawberry cupcake [*fave]
Brunch at Pecan Square Cafe
Tried out Pecan Square Cafe, a new spot from the MML Hospitality brand, which seems to be taking over Austin. This restaurant, which used to be Cafe Josie, is a cute spot though parking is terrible. Here’s what I tried:
- Pecan Sticky Bun
- Summer Melon Pecorino Romano, Hungarian wax chili, mint
- Handcut Tagliatelle summer pesto, chili crunch
- Zucchini Fritto, anchovy green goddess
Dessert at Sweet Memes
Sweeten your day with crepe cake, boba tea, and/or another from Sweet Memes’ big dessert selection. Soufflé pancakes, panna cotta, shibuya toast, waffles…the list goes on! I tried the matcha mil crepe cake and the dirty boba taro milk. Next time I want a strawberry soufflé pancake!
Beer at No Label Brewing (Katy, TX)
We had to stop by No Label Brewing to try their award-winning Cali Boy West Coast IPA! It did not disappoint, but the only regret is not bringing some home to enjoy.
Dinner at Fresh Bowl
If you’re in Northeast Austin, Fresh Bowl will become one of your favorite neighborhood spots for Vietnamese food. Stop here for pho, vermicelli bowls, and iced green Thai tea.
Out of Nowhere ATX (Complimentary)
This food truck moved to a new spot at the bar Mort Subtie in Downtown Austin. I loved everything I tried – from the classic burger to grilled cheese to truffle frites with aioli. Craving cheese curds? You can get them here!
Lunch at Bamboo House
A popular Chinese restaurant in the Houston area, Bamboo House has been open for a little more than a month in Austin. We arrived 20 minutes before opening on the weekend and there were about 4 parties in line already. So, plan ahead if you want to try the duck!
Your order of half or whole duck includes duck broth soup and the accompaniments to make a taco-type wrap – cucumbers, scallions, hoisin sauce, plum sauce, brown sugar, and thin crepe-like tortillas. The whole duck is a good amount for four people. You may want to order one more dish, depending on how hungry you are. We also got the boiled fish fillets in chili sauce and stir-fried bok choy, so we had plenty of leftovers!
Dessert at Baklava House
Need something sweet? Stop by Baklava House for the largest baklava selection you’ve ever seen. A lb of baklava is about 10 pieces and $15.
Dinner at Odd Duck
One of my faves – I returned to Odd Duck recently and liked many of their dishes, including corn ribs, gulf seafood ceviche, sweet potato agnolotti, grilled quail, and wagyu sirloin cap.
Ice Cream from Merry Monarch Creamery
New dessert food truck alert! These fancy ice cream flavors are a must-try. My great combo was Oreo miso (with ripples of chocolate hazelnut truffles) and fig madeira (sheep’s milk ricotta with cold brew coffee and a white Turkish fig and Madeira wine compote). Can’t wait to visit again!
Dinner at Comedor
I returned this gem of a restaurant. Did you catch this blog post about it?
