Closing out the year, here’s my recap of the best things I ate in October, November, and December.
Fika Table
I was excited to finally try Fika Table’s Swedish buns. Cardamom is the traditional flavor but the honey lavender was tasty!
Beer from Circle Brewing Co & Tacos at Norte
One of the oldest breweries in Austin has a lot of exciting things going on. They have some good mainstay beers – my favorite is the Ladybird IPA – and recognizable seasonals like the Tuxedo Tshirt. Their location in North Austin is the closest to Q2 Stadium, which makes it party central on Austin FC game days. Their new, spacious location is being built in Northeast Austin.
Omakase at Uroko
It’s been a while since I’ve had the tasting at Uroko and I was looking forward to trying it again. It’s a 45-minute, 12-piece tasting for $86. The tasting room seats six people. I can confirm – this is an excellent value for a chef’s tasting and the pieces are delicious. See my post about the omakase.
Tasting with BOXT
This fine wine on tap impressed me! I met up with my Austin Food Blogger Alliance friends for a happy hour with BOXT. Did you know the company is female-founded and Austin-born?
Other things I love:
- Blended by taste so it’s consistent. They source grapes globally.
- 8 different profiles – reds and whites – so there’s something for everyone. My favorites were 1, 4/5, and 9.
- 50% less carbon footprint than one glass bottle. Plus what cool packaging!
- 1 BOXT = 4 bottles of wine!
- Lasts 6 weeks once tapped
Treats from Kessler Baking Studio (Dallas)
On the way back from spending Thanksgiving in Dallas, we stopped by Kessler Baking Studio for some sweet treats. This bakery is recognized for its baked goods and we got a good mix of things. Read this post to see what we enjoyed.
Beer from Adelbert’s
I said goodbye to this brewery with one last visit. Since their building was being demolished, they decided to close the brewery. As you can imagine, moving an operation that has been in business for 11 years is a huge task and financial commitment. Adelbert’s was one of the first breweries I visited, so many memories were made here! (See my brewery guide here.)
Dinner at Bulevar
There have been a handful of new Mexican restaurants in Austin, including this one by the same people as ATX Cocina. My friend and I enjoyed the happy hour menu (4:30 – 6 pm) and added the Mixto Pibil and Churros from the dinner menu. Everything was delicious and I’d order it all again except for the churros, which were a little over-fried.
- Hielo Mezcal Frozen Cocktail
- Taco de Trompo (pork belly, flank steak, adobo)
- Machete (lamb cheek quesadilla)
- Don Frijol y Queso
- Herby Guacamole
- Mixto Pibil (oxtail, pork)
- Churros
