Out of 25 Austin restaurants/places (and other places) visited in October, November, and December, here’s what I liked eating the most this quarter!
Hope this helps you find a new place to try!
Camino Alamo BBQ
Uygher – pronounced “wee-grr” – are a Turkic ethnic group in Central and East Asia. They are native to Northwest China. There are about 13.5 million Uyghers in the world with almost 12 million in China. This food truck by the UT campus serves skewers/kabobs. You’ll taste the unique flavors of the spices.
Eats in Japan
Most of my October was spent in Japan, and if you’ve seen those posts, you know I had some GREAT eating there! If you haven’t yet, check out these posts:

Pastries from Comadre Panaderia
This bakery is one of the best in Austin! Check out this post to see all the details.
Bourbon Battle at Fierce Whiskers
I attended the 2nd Annual Bourbon Battle at Fierce Whiskers and was impressed by the bartenders and the creative cocktails they made.
Here are the bars present, aka places you can find some good cocktails in Austin! (I added some notes about my favorite sips of the event.)
- Holiday on 7th
- Peche
- Here Nor There – Croissant cordial? Hi, I love pastries!
- Cosmic Coffee and Bar
- Nickel City – SO many interesting flavors with the cucumber, herbed sour cream, and corn chips!
- South Congress Hotel – Apple cider and chai, it’s fall in a cup!
- The Treasury
- Pinballz
- Mattie’s
- Kinfolk – I love a good story and this cocktail’s tie-in was fun.
Skewers at Otoshi
One of the food trucks at Fierce Whiskers serves skewers and this was so good!
Tacos from Un Mundo de Sabor
The other food truck at Fierce Whiskers serves tacos and this is the best barbacoa I’ve had this year.
Brunch at Bureau de Poste
This French bistro opened in an old post office building in Hyde Park and it’s a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. It also had an incredible burger and frites. I’ve never had frites this good!
Homemade
I baked a variety of things for parties and gatherings. Check these out:
- Chai Sugar Cookies
- Brown Butter Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies
- Giant Egg Tart (recipe from the Mooncakes and Milk Bread cookbook)
- Ginger Pear Tart
Dinner at Olamaie
We celebrated my birthday at Olamaie and it was a solid meal. I love that Olamaie is a classic Austin restaurant that still serves creative and consistently quality dishes. See this post for more details.
Boba at Feng Cha
A new location of Feng Cha, a bubble tea brand, opened in North Austin. There are three locations in Austin now. The number of boba places has grown and I hope they do well! My go-to flavor is taro but I also like oolong tea. See this post for some options.
Brunch at Foreign & Domestic
This spot is another classic in Austin and they have a good, casual brunch. We enjoyed the pancakes, cast iron frittata, and banofee dessert (bananas, whipped cream, chocolate).
Baked Goods at Wolf and Wheat
This bakery made a big splash because it comes from Michelin-starred Pastry Chef Margarita Kallas-Lee. She’s the co-owner and chef behind Sushi by Scratch and Pasta Bar. I liked the selection of things that I got, and I think the must-haves are the sourdough bread and the brown butter brioche cookie.
Dinner at Uchiba
The newest concept from the team that brought us Uchi and Uchiko is here! Uchiba, is seen as a casual Japanese cocktail bar/restaurant, so while there are sushi dishes, it’s focused on small plates like sliders and skewers. The restaurant is also gorgeous!
