Austin restaurants and dishes are featured in my monthly Flavors of the Month posts. Check out this post for recommendations on where to eat next!
Lunch at Prim and Proper
I stopped into this new cafe on South Congress for lunch with a friend. Prim and Proper is the restaurant concept inside Neighborhood Goods, a store with clothing and home goods. It’s located in the newly developed Music Lane area on South Congress. I always love a good kale salad and their avocado toast was delicious as well. This place is a good addition to the area.
Craft Beer from 4th Tap Brewing
I had been seeing this beer at HEB, so I finally picked up a six-pack. It’s a hit with me! Stay Gold honors the local band, Black Pumas, and is a hoppy pale ale. It’s a very drinkable hoppy beer for those who like a slight pucker.
Dessert at Snowy Village North Austin (Complimentary)
Snowy Village invited me in to try some of their new offerings. I already love the red bean taiyaki for its crispy edges and it’s the best I’ve tried in Austin. They also have a new brown sugar boba bingsu that is just like the popular popsicle.
Lunch at Bodhi Viet Vegan
This was my first time visiting this food truck up north but I was easily wowed! Bodhi Viet Vegan is a food truck in North Austin run by Buddhist nuns and volunteers and all profits go back to their temple. That in itself is unique but also, this meal was incredible! I got the Bodhi Spicy Noodle Soup (Bún Huế) and I didn’t put in the extra spice so it was perfectly spicy for me. I also got the delicious taro tea and fried egg rolls.
Cake from Polkadots Bakery
To celebrate our first anniversary, our wedding cake bakery gave us a complimentary anniversary cake! We got our wedding cake flavor – strawberries and cream – and it was just as delicious as on our wedding day. The flavor is usually on their menu, so you can taste it for yourself!
Barbecue from Stiles Switch
Whenever we want to eat barbecue, Stiles Switch is the go-to! We usually do brisket and their beef rib is delicious too. Their potato salad is probably my favorite in Austin. This time around, I tried their corn casserole (kind of like cornbread) and it will probably be a must-order next time!
Dessert from Thai Fresh / Gati Ice Cream
In my pandan research, I had to try the pandan ice cream from Thai Fresh. YUM! They recently expanded from their ice cream truck to a new ice cream shop by the same name. Plus, some of their ice creams are in the new Thai Fresh Cookbook. I got a copy and I can’t wait to try some of the recipes!
Dinner from El Naranjo
One day I will do a proper post on El Naranjo, but for now, I will say I’ve dined here twice and am so impressed by this restaurant! Ceviche is a must-order. This time around I got the carne asada which was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were incredible.
Japanese Cheesecake from OMG Squee
I’ve been seeing this cheesecake for a long time, so my friend Janna and I got one to split! (It’s $34 for one.) It’s fluffier compared to U.S. cheesecake and the cheese flavor is more subtle. We got the ube swirl flavor but I couldn’t really taste the ube. The cheesecake was delicious!
Sushi Dinner from Uroko
I’ve written about Uroko before, so you know I love this restaurant. They are currently doing to-go omakase. It’s a different experience from the dine-in omakase but the meal was delicious and the tasting notes are helpful!
Snacks from Costco
Do you know a Costco fanatic? I don’t have a membership (yet?) but I know two people who are fanatics. They love the Costco deals and they’ve both bought me random snacks (unprompted) to try. This seaweed snack was so delicious, I think I’m going to enlist them as my Costco suppliers so I can get more! Do you have any favorite buys from Costco?
