First, get a spacious and clean backyard. Next, hope the weather turns out as perfect as our day. There were forecasts of rain and a cold front, so I thought the worst, but it wasn’t too hot or cold and sunny.
The food was the star of the show! For the set-up, we had two pots and a Big Green Egg. Be sure you have some experts in charge of the pots and grill. (Thank you to Boyfriend and our friend Barry for taking care of everything!) All the seafood was on ice in a cooler. Everything came out in batches, so we were snacking for hours.
To entice fall to our party, I made a spiked apple cider punch with spiced rum, apple cider, lemon juice, and sliced apples.
Of course, you know I can’t host a party without dessert! We had mini apple turnovers from HEB’s bakery section and my favorite homemade salted brown butter rice crispy treats. I also set up the awesome Hershey’s s’mores kit I received earlier this year and had a s’mores bar. It was a big hit! While the marshmallows didn’t get burnt as some enjoy them, they got perfectly toasted with this handy heater. (We also didn’t put it up after the party and ate s’mores for a week. The marshmallow heater is very handy.)
Since we started the party early and we’re all “old,” everyone left by 10pm, and I’m sure we all went to bed early. The icing on top of the best party ever!
I’m on a mission to throw 12 celebrations in 2016. This is #9 of 12. See all of #Celebrations2016 here!
