The Magnolia Market Silos and Silos Baking Co. are located in Waco, TX and were created by Chip and Joanna Gaines. With a background in home construction and design, they popularized shiplap and remodeled fixer-upper homes with potential into beautiful homes on their HGTV show ‘Fixer Upper.” Since the show began airing in 2013, they have grown their empire with an online store, home product line, a magazine, a book, a physical store, a bakery, and a hotel. There are countless articles about how they have revitalized Waco and put it “back” on the map.
Being from Texas, it’s hard to ignore these “hometown heroes.” I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Fixer Upper and were drawn to their creativity, authenticity, and fun personalities. I can see why they have such a strong following and why people have specifically flocked to Waco to experience Magnolia Market! They’re an example of a talented and loving couple with strong family values.
Waco is on my route from Dallas to Austin, so when visiting family for the holidays, a stop was added for cupcakes!
The newest addition to the complex is Silos Baking Co. The main attraction is cupcakes, though you’ll also find giant cookies and cinnamon rolls.
I got a Strawberries and Cream cupcake (strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream icing) while boyfriend got a chocolate chip cookie. While the icing was a tad sweet, the cake was perfection! The chocolate chip cookie was crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside.
After picking up the sweets, we walked around the complex. The main market is filled with home goods, similar to Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. My favorites were the kitchen bowls and colorful rugs. There are some local Waco goods and goods specifically designed by Joanna. Pretty vignettes everywhere!
Outside is a big open field encouraging kids and families to play. Swings, balls, and picnic tables make it a welcoming place.
On the outer edge, food trucks are available to fuel all your shopping and playing.
There was plenty of parking on the holiday weekend we went, but if you can’t find parking around the complex, there are shuttles at a designated parking lot down the street.
While I came for the cupcake, the environment was definitely a sight to see. I thought it was a bit of a madhouse, even though it wasn’t as crowded as I think it usually is. It was easy to see that Chip and Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper have definitely created a loyal following!
It was one good cupcake.
