It’s always a good time to visit Austin. A day in Austin is better than a day anywhere else. 😉 But really, with mild winters and beautiful spring and fall, Austin is an ideal place for a getaway.
While we recommend you come whenever you can, this quick guide will break down the seasons and activities for you.
When to Visit Austin
Winter – December, January, February
We rarely see snow in Austin. You’ll get days of temperatures in the 30s and 40s and 60s and possibly even 70s in the same week. We never really know in Texas. So, layer up and be prepared. It’s a quiet and somewhat eerie time in Austin around the holidays, about the third week of December until the students come back to the universities and school starts. You’ll get lower hotel rates and a whole city to yourself but establishments with limited hours. February isn’t too bad, especially if we hav a warm winter! Beware of allergies, especially cedar and pollen.

Spring – March, April, May
Following the winter season, the city comes alive even more in the spring. With Spring Break in Texas comes a whole lot of festivals, and the city becomes quite crowded. But we revel in the perfect weather, patio eating, and watching Zilker Park come to life. You’ll see peak hotel rates but who wouldn’t want to be in the middle of all this energy?

Summer – June, July, August
Do you like sweating constantly? Do you like living in a bathing suit? Summer in Texas is exactly as you imagine it but add a few degrees. Temperatures easily reach the 100s, so the swimming holes and snow cone stands are crowded. But if you don’t mind a little bit of heat, it’s also a vibrant, care-free time in Austin, as summers in most places are. Austin loves its outdoors in the summer, strange but true, and with long, sunny days, you’ll find plenty of activities, like free live music concerts.
